Usually in America, a sudden interest in cursive instruction is a red flag that the school system is failing and is looking to build a public relations bulwark to weather the coming storm.

Cursive instruction is like catnip to administrators:
    1. It costs relatively little in materials, unlike STEM instruction,
    2. It is untestable on any standardized measure of student progress or acheivement, and
    3. It plays well among older voters, who tend to to vote in higher rates than other demographics.

Later, when schools are being closed or placed into federal receivership, legislators and education administrators can rail against the “out-of-touch Them”, with their standards and tests, while reminding the local populace how the administrators stood up for wholesome values like learning cursive and loving America. 🇺🇸
