    Question Kaweco

With the posts about Kaweco in For Sale and elsewhere on the forum, I was curious about the company's current production and looked at its website: https://www.kaweco-pen.com/en/

Does Kaweco manufacture its own nibs?

I have to admit, I really like the color of the DIA2 limited edition set in amber. Click on the link and use the magnifier function to see the color pop. Alas, it's a cartridge pen, though it should take a converter.

Based on Kaweco's online store locater, buying new Kaweco pens in the USA isn't going to be easy. Topdrawer's four locations (the only store listed, B&M or online) doesn't offer pens on their website.

The Dia2 body is too narrow for a standard converter, but a short Kaweco one might work. I just refill cartridges. The pen usually comes with the smaller 060 nib, but you can use the larger 250 nib. I got mine that way from a vendor in Germany. It's a nice pen.

Laura and I jointly reviewed a Dia2 quite some time ago now, and it took a standard Kaweco converter then. There's a picture of the Dia2 on that review with the standard Kaweco converter inside it. The pens look pretty similar, so I can't imagine why that standard Kaweco converter wouldn't still fit.

In fact the advertisement in the link confirms the standard Kaweco converter will fit. The pen doesn't come with one though. You would have to buy it separately.

Thanks for clarifying that. Because you followed by saying "a short Kaweco converter might work," I thought you were suggesting that the standard sized Kaweco version wouldn't.
I didn't know that the standard sized Kaweco converter wasn't the same size as a standard International sized converter. I had assumed they were the same size.

A generic Schneider converter jams in the barrel for me, and I'm sure I've read a review that detailed the same experience. I don't have a Kaweco converter to compare.

I only got the Dia2 on loan so I don't know about a generic converter. Didn't I read something about there being a spring inside the barrel to keep a cartridge in the correct position when a cartridge is being used? Maybe that needs removing for some standard international converters whereas it might not for the Kaweco version? Maybe it's not even about the same pen.

After saying that, I just tried the Schneider again, and it seems to fit, albeit a bit snug for my taste. Perhaps user error on my part? There does seem to be a spring in the barrel.

At least I'm certain about the larger nib.

The nib looks like a decent sized nib for the pen.

I found the Kaweco converter unbearably rattly in the Dia2 - nearly put me off the pen for good. Tried removing the spring in case that was the trouble, didn't put it back but did try a generic Schmidt converter - the cheap one, K2 I think - and that works a treat, no more rattling, happy days. Now whether it'd foul on the spring if it was still in there, I couldn't say, but from my experience I'd sooner remove the spring than invest in a Kaweco standard converter.

As to the Dia2 itself, it's a sturdy little pen that evokes its vintage predecessor pretty well. The smaller size nib is, for me, part of that look.

my buddy Henry has that one-- it's gorgeous.
Imma have to get me a dia2 now that I know I can put a bigger nib in it.

Fred - Kaweco's nibs are now made for them by Bock. They made their own nibs in the past.

Jetpens and Fahrney's come to mind as dealers in the States. I think Dan (Nibsmith) has them as well. Fahrney's has the set you pictured. There's also a new batch of Art Sports out. I bought one of the metallic green ones, and the Tiger Eye is attractive as well.

How did you manage that?? I've tried a bunch of times to fit a #6 Bock nib into that smaller housing and it never works for me!

I got it that way from the vendor, listed as DIA2 Big Nib. Not clear on the rules - is it okay to say where I got it?

Cool. I bought it from Seitz-Kreuznach. The only issue I had is that they put a bar code on the package that corresponds to the order number, but USPS sometimes scans that, causing the package to make loops around the country.

Kaweco *used* to use Bock nibs; they switched to Jowo last year.
