    Default Hello from Chester

Hello from the beautiful Roman city of Chester in North West England.

I have always been interested in fountain pens, going back to when my family ran a stationery shop in the 1970s. My interest has been re-awakened recently and I have made a few purchases.

My collection runs to around 70 pens, and like a lot of people I don't get enough oportunities to use them in everyday life. At the start of this year I started to change pen every week, photographing and cataloguing the new pen as I fill it. So it will take me over a year to record all my pens, not counting new arrivals.

Currently favourite writer - Lamy 2000
Most cherished pen - Jack Row Mirage
Most surprising pen - Jinhao 993 Shark - it really is a good pen for £3

Hello from London! Will you be posting your pen photos here too? I'd be interested in seeing them

Hello Voiren, my photos are not very good - just a cheap digital camera. Here are the ones currently in use. Parker 65 Insignia from the 1970s, FPR Jaipur with gold nib.

Welcome, as to the choice of pens, sort out the ones you enjoy using most and rotate them, remembering to clean them out after use. Above all enjoy

Hello Amos, Yes indeed, part of the process is a good wash and dry after use.

Hello and welcome from across the border...

Was in Chester on the last day of last year. Was hoping Paperchase had some nice letter writing stationery in the sale, but they didn't have much!

Hello Morgaine, Unfortunately Paperchase is a bit of a disappointment these days. The nearest decent stationery shop I know is in Shrewsbury, but that has too many expensive pens for me to visit too often.

Occasionally has some good stuff. This time last year, I bought the greenish Lamy Al-star limited colour thing in the sale.

Many nicer things for the young uns, bright and colourful and cheerful. Unicorns anyone? Not sure though if I'd like a Unicorn-themed fountain pen. I have a shark and a swan already!

I had to stop using my P65 Insignia, a problem with the spring inside the cap. So here's the replacement - Waterman CF Moire. One of my old favourites.

I've just realised how much I paid for my Shark - less than you did, but it was also dearer than the first Lamy Al-star I bought!!!!!!!!!!

I got it at the Sheffield Pen show last year. Pure Pens had a stand selling ink and a few Jinhao pens. I think I overpaid - they are £2.99 on their website.
