Default Strange 1st gen Vac barrel jewel

Is this just some strange repair? Looks like the fluted end of the tassie was shaved down and a new 'jewel' built up with a clear resin--which makes the strong bids it's gotten curious...do they know something I don't?

    Good question.

I see a jewel replaced by a puddle of glue.
There is damage or guck on the cap.
The nib is not flexible, it is flexed. There are two visible cracks.

Whoa...it ended up going for $311...maybe we are out of the loop?
I mean, the burgundy pens usually command at least $150, but over $300? for a well-used Standard?

Auctions are like that, especially if two flush bidders haven't seen the goods.

Overpolished, badly restored, breather hole cracks clearly visible in the photos. That was good money, poorly spent. I've got an identical pen in far better condition, paid probably half that. Fools and their money.

No it's not the same pen. You have to select another link to go back to the original auction item from the link in post 1. However, the pen in that auction was red and had 3 barrel bands plus it's cracked nib and puddle of glue jewel.

    Got it.

Was looking at another one with a Speedline ( Photo ) @ $255

    Now know the difference.

    A great many thanks.

Nice nib though, the one I have in my cross hairs

That looks like a 3-ring standard, not a Maxima. The lockdowns ended in 3Q 1938, so this would have been among the last ones of that sort made.
