Manu Propria Pens - Naamban Kawarinuri
A "Shibui" Type ebonite pen with a urushi lacquer I call "Namban-Kawari-Nuri".
Kawarinuri is the term for „experimental Lacquer“.
Namban = Southern Barbarian, designs influenced by or made for foreign market. Many thin rings of urushi are applied with a brush and sprinkled with a wide range of metal, eggshell, mother of perl and dry lacquer powder. After applying many layers of transparent lacquer the surface is ground flat and polished.
With the time the transparent lacquer will become more transparent and the underlaying colors will appear stronger and stronger

Re: Manu Propria Pens - Naamban Kawarinuri
Do I count as a southern barbarian? The Ile de France doesn't feel very southern at the moment, with grey skies, zero temperatures, and snow forecast, but I really adore this pen. It has the same lovely iridescence as soap bubbles, or oily puddles on a wet road, or starling feathers. Just pure loveliness in pen form.
