Default New Member 'Hello' + question

    Greetings!

Just getting started on my pen collection: I tend towards old/antique/vintage items (straight razors are a favorite) and fountain pens seem right up my alley.

Question: anyone know where I can learn more about PARKPEN (not Parker!)? I see a fair number of references online to combo pen/pencil sets (maybe 1930's) branded "PARKPEN" but I really can't get any farther than that. I'm pretty sure it's not a Parker-based brand (like Parkette or Parkco) based on the historic part of Parker's website, but otherwise I've got zero to go on. I ask because I picked up a pen at a local store and they can't tell me anything about it.... and it's clearly labeled "PARKPEN" on the clip.

Just curious to learn more. Regardless of how this search turns out, any other places members recommend to read up on the older stuff?

    Thanks!pen1.jpgpen2.jpg

Also, is it just me, or is it weird to see the lever in this picture alongside a non-nib tip (admittedly, I'm not sure what I'm looking at on the tip)?

Welcome! While I've seen lots of combo pens in general I'm not familiar with that brand.

That's the pencil end on the left. The nib is under the cap on the right. There is another photo of the pen in the same FPN post that shows the nib, which appears to be a later replacement. I don't know the brand. You will have to do your research.

Welcome It might be worth a try to contact a few pen dealers with this inquiry. Vintage Pens . com sells vintage pencil combos of different brands.

Thanks for that reference. I reached out, and they said the following about mine (the fountain-only pen at the top, not the combo): "It's clearly an economy-line pen from the 1930s..." but past that they didn't know. Now my curiosity is definitely piqued - still hunting.

    Thanks again!

Fountain Pen Network is a great place also, but some view it as not being as cordial as Fountain Pen Geeks. I have never had any real issues, but I guess you can always experience a "one off" on any forum. Lots of great information there!

    Glad you are among us!
