Default Good envelopes that arent clairfontaine

All the standard size envelopes I've tried that I can run out and buy in a corner store here (midwestern US) are miserable for addressing with fountain pen ink. I've had great luck with Clairefountaine (sp?) self-sealing envelopes but I hate having to order them online. Does anyone have a favorite big box store brand that stands up to a fine fountain pen nib, and ideally has a seal sealing strip?

I happen to love Strathmore Writing, Wove Finish, Square Flap envelopes. They are not self-sealing though, I use a glue stick so I don't have to lick them.

The main problem with finding decent envelopes like Clairefontaine is that most people do prefer to order them online, so the "corner stores" don't stock them because they won't sell them. You can get them delivered to your home within 2 days from Amazon, and they will be significantly cheaper than the corner store could sell them for.

I gave up on finding good envelopes and bought a punch board. Only, now I end up with envelopes made out of bizarre things that are too dark and busy to write on. So, I have to put address labels on them, and the address labels are made from crap paper... Can't win for losing

I also make many of my own envelopes and have the same problem with address labels.

Non-sticky address labels - put a square of whatever light-coloured fountain pen paper you like on there, glue or tape it.

Here there is a dearth of any decent paper or envelopes - with the exception of Rhodia notebooks. As a result I end up mostly using standard office envelopes or some of the few oddly sized ones that the shops think letter writers would like. These are all terrible paper quality but I find that despite this they will take Sumi ink from a pointed pen rather well. Strange, because they suck when using a fountain pen.

However, I don't have Sumi ink from a pointed pen and prefer to write on my envelopes with a fountain pen. Some self-adhesive labels work better than others.

In lieu of better envelopes, how about switching to a different ink?

I tested a few of my waterproof inks on a cheap office supply store brand envelope with both dip pen and fountain pen.

Montblanc Permanent Black and de Atramentis Document Black seem promising.

Yeah, fair enough... Right now, I've got an old Sheaffer desk pen inked up with Noodlers blue-black that does a decent job on cheap paper address labels. I just don't want to have to keep a special pen/ink combo loaded and ready for addressing duty. I would rather have labels that will work with whatever pen I'm using at the moment... Cake and eat it too and all that
