Whoa! Having to lay low and work from my "portable office" in a semi-civilised place whilst the viral humdinger does its thing. No more foreign assignments for a while. Can not a pen be made from more or less anything that can be fashioned into a tube? Therefore the limit would be for what is stable, practical, cost effective, easy to use and so on. Or at least one, some or all the usual factors. Is the thread starter instead asking what materials pens ARE/HAVE BEEN made from, rather than what they CAN be made from? I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick, you see.

    Hello Young Dave,

To quote line 1 of Post 1 :

I was wondering what materials the barrels and caps of pens can be made from or covered in.

It was just a quick thought, but developed into a sort of mini-collection.

    Any suggestions welcomed.

    Any other suggestions?

Going back to Post 52 from March 2019, I have finally bought a pen made from G10.

Bexley owner's club pen 2010, bought from a UK seller on a well known internet auction site.

The seller still lists a black version of the same, if anybody wants one.

Does that clip have ornament down the sides? Interesting.

    Yes, indeed, Fred.

In fact, on both sides. Such sophistication! It also bears the number 006 or 900 (whichever way up you look) on the clip band.

Looking at the seller's other Owners Club 2010 pen, the black pen has gold coloured trim and the same number on the clip
    ring.

I see "ceramic" is on the list of pen materials. There are many Chinese ceramic finish pens on the internet. Another, less common ceramic is the Muki pen from Poland. It's metal coated with aluminum oxide dust known as corundum that is fired at 3000°F. There's pictures of this pen at http://wiland.eu/edition-21.html.

An interesting detail of this pen is the cork used to hold the section and the cap in place. It's a ring of cork as used in many wind instruments. I have one of these pens and the cork seal for the cap keeps the nib from drying out, even when stored for a long time.

Thank you for reviving my old thread.

My example of "ceramic" is the Lamy Lady, with Rosenthal porcelaine.

I like the look of the Muki pen. But the marketing and packaging both look lavish. Maybe a bit on the expensive side.
