Default Parker 51 Aerometric Barrel thread size help needed

    Hi all

I need a bit of help

I am looking to make an arbour to mount a Parker 51 Aerometric barrel on to aid polishing.

I understand the tread is a multi start, but does anyone know what the correct size is, Thread Diameter, Pitch etc.

I did buy one from the well known Argentinian but what I received was a butchered joke, with most of the treads missing, not impressed given what he charges

Thanks in advance for any help with this

    Paul

    Hello Paul H

Perhaps you are looking for a solution from the wrong perspective.

Most professional restorers would recommend the following.

Use a plastic rod about 6 inches long with a diameter that is about 2 mm smaller than the barrel.

Use 50mm ( 2 inch ) sellotape, wrap in around to the same diameter, them offer it up to the barrel and gently screw it in.
If you take the time and get it right, you will only have to do it once.

On the other end of the rod do the same for the hood.

    It really is that easy.

    Have I done it ?

Of course, polished many P51 / P61 barrels and hoods to perfection.

As for your polishing technique, I would be very interested to know how you continue from there.

Nb – Most oddly - I actually live very near you.

( The attached photograph of the P61 hoods is mine, none were repaired, just gently polished to perfection. )

How? - Manually? Using a Dremel? Or something else?

    Chrissy,

Sorry for the later reply, I hardly ever look at this section.

A quick answer - manually with fine / super fine / ultra fine - very specialist cloth sandpaper.

Then 2 other specialist liquid polishes.

Never use a dremel on pen shells.

There is an downside, you have buy the necessary products - about £60 worth ( will do about 200 pens ).
Watch a vastly experienced pen restorer for a few days ( not just polishing ).

Have attached an image of P51 shells I restored about 4 months ago for another collector, they were in poor shape - a great many marks but no cracks
