Default What do you usualy wear when you work at home?

    Hi guys!
I've been in Zoom meetings and seen people in, let's put it mildly, less than stylish clothing (old t-shirts, wrinkled dress shirts, tank tops, and in one case what clearly looked to be pajama tops etc.)
Offline I suppose people can wear whatever they want when they're working at home.

Anyway, I just wear a simple, fitted, clean T-shirt and jeans for online meetings. How about you?

I have a nice dark and nondescript shirt on a wire hanger close to my computer. Before the meeting begins I'll put on the shirt and clip a nice shiny pen in the shirt pocket. As soon as the meeting is over the shirt goes back to its hanger, until the next time.

PS. No one can really tell that I'm always wearing shorts.

    PPS. Welcome to FPG!

People tell me I'm wearing thin.

BTW: unusual topic for a first post. I'm a bit... suspicious.

    @JSz word

Questions about what people wear in their homes....

Mac, say hello and introduce yourself. We're a small group here, and many of us have known each other a long time (so to speak).

As Inkflow, with a White Rabbit logo and image to maintain, I avail myself of a Brooks Brothers shirt and tie, cufflinks and tie clasp. A worsted wool blazer in gray helps. When the minions behold me (LOL) it serves to regale them at their terminals. #overthetop #tongueincheek

A connection speed sufficient to enable any sort of video call would be such an occasion I believe it'd have to be an evening gown and diamonds.

I pretty much never do video calls at work. It's almost always t-shirt and jeans or shorts.

Same here I work as an English tutor and at the moment can't meet my students offline unfortunately using Zoom instead. Thanx God I can wear casual things at home like T-shirts and jeans which I usually find via cools due to great search options and a wide range of discount offers and not buy some business suits as I did for offline lessons

I count my blessings here. I've been telecommuting for like 10+ years and have had Skype for maybe 5 or so.

With even more of my company working from home during the pandemic, our vpn had been a bit overtaxed so, thankfully, video is out of the picture... so to speak.

The nature of my job is such that telecommuting is not an option; I've been going in as normal. Which means that I probably should not participate in this discussion.

But I was wondering. If you use these conferencing apps such as Zoom or whatever it might be, is it considered rude to leave the tape over the camera on the monitor? I mean, you should still be able to share documents, and they can hear your voice. I've never used videoconferencing with any platform.

I expect that if I were compelled to telecommute, use a conferencing act, and untape my camera (yes, I really do have tape over it), I would wear the same sort of shirt that I do at work, generally a long or short sleeved polo shirt with a pocket. Out of sight of the camera, I don't suppose it would matter what sort of pants I wore, or whether I had shoes.

I donít need to videoconference, but recently read that one can buy an app that makes a background of your choice appear behind you on screen instead of your actual surroundings. I suppose that helps if youíre a lousy housekeeper!

The app in question (mostly) is Zoom, which can be put on phones, tablets or simply logged into with your browser. Included in almost all their version (except the one for Kindle, apparently) is the ability to set a photo/image as your background. It works well and while some people go overboard, it is better than looking at... some backgrounds.

The nice part is that it is free to use for personal use. While have have been using for business-related things, we also have been reaching out to family and friends around the globe. Had a nice chat with friends in NY, the hubbie plays in NY Phil. I decided we needed a swank background, so I had the Mrs and I sitting onstage at Carnegie Hall.

Most tools allow you to chose whether to enable your webcam or not. I do not send video as I live in a rural location with SFA in the way of bandwidth, particularly upload. I explain this to the (few) people that ask, otherwise, it has not been an issue at all.
