I just finished listening to the 2-disc "The Köln Concert" of Keith Jarrett. I haven't pulled this out in a long time, but the recording gave me reason to be grateful that as a young man, 40-50 years ago, I took good care of my vinyl.

I love revisiting this, but also sad: I realize he had downsides to his personality, but one can't help but feel great loss knowing that, due to recent strokes, he won't return to playing.

I was listening to the recently released collection of Joni Mitchell’s early performances, from when she was more known as a songwriter. It was interesting to hear her deeper tone develop.

Is that the new box set? I hope to get a listen to some of that. Also, did you see the recent interview of her in The Guardian, done by Cameron Crowe? It's good - if you can't find it through search, let me know, I think I have it saved somewhere.

I saw Joni in concert in around 1972, Jackson Browne was also on the bill, this was in the time of Blue and Ladies of the Canyon, been a lifelong fan ever since then, I knew all the words, all the nuances, all the special tuning, an amazing person.

Thanks for the link Rob. I’m jealous. I never got to a show.

And yes, Jon, it was the new box set. Thanks for the tip! on the interview

I may have mentioned in this or another thread that I'm paying a dubious compliment to some very fine artists by using their performances as background music while I write or draw.

That said, here are some YouTube videos which I have been complimenting in that way recently, more than once.

In fact, on that last one, since the "video" is just a still photo of the pianist, I made a couple of sketches of her while listening.

Thanks for turning me onto Engerer's playing. My god, so beautiful. I downloaded the album to my phone from YT Music to enjoy. May need to get a cd for my hifi.

I may have mentioned this lovely young woman before, can't recall. Her name is Allison Young, and she is a delight as she so hearkens back to the forties and fifties...
