    Default Newbie from Pittsburgh

It’s an early April morning, supposedly the season has changed, but on this spring morning I’m having my AM coffee on my porch, and freezing my fingers off trying to type this Intro! Two days ago it was in the mid 60s and I was playing with my kids outside wearing shorts, yesterday snow fell, and today looks like it’s going to be another frigid one. I am so ready for consistent sun.

I am excited to have found a new outlet for this shared love of Fountain Pens. Especially as I have come to a point, where I feel that I’ve experienced and learned a lot on my own, and would like to start to expand the experience with others. My wife is so loving and supportive, but she can only fake interest for so long, and I find myself wanting to talk more and more about pens.

    Pen Goals:
I’ve amassed a few too many pens, in a relatively short period of time! So one goal I have is to find better hands for some of these pens that I don’t tend to reach for as much. Whether that’s through trades, gifts, or sales. I’d also like to learn more about vintage pens, and potentially acquire something to try out. I’ve been especially mesmerized by the rings around the Parker Vacumatic. Finally, I am intrigued by the idea of experiencing a pen show. Hopefully I will learn more about which shows are worth attending, and maybe make a connection here ahead of time, so I’m not wandering alone aimlessly in a foreign land.

If you’ve read this entire intro post, I already love you!!! I just wish I could have written this with my most recent pen acquisition - TWSBI Aurora.

You could have written your post with your TWSBI, and then posted a scan or photo of it! There's even a thread on this forum composed entirely in fountain pen.
I'm a native Pittsburgher myself, now relocated to the Left Coast. Used to go see the Pirates in the old Forbes Field. Great days. I even have a baseball signed by Bill Mazeroski, who hit the only Game Seven walk-off homer in World Series history. Unfortunately, he signed it in ballpoint pen, but I won't hold it against him.
Do you know about Birmingham Pens? They have a line of Pittsburgh-themed fountain pen inks.
    Anyway, welcome to FPG!

You (and calamus as well) are soooo lucky to live in the city of The Birmingham Pen Company.
Hope you know where the factory is.
Unfortunately it is too far from Hungary, Europe where I live.

Ah yes, but you are only 100 km from the beautiful, historic city of Budapest. And currently, Birmingham Pen Company doesn't have a brick-and-mortar retail location, although one is theoretically on the way. And as for me, I have moved away from my childhood home, and now live thousands of miles to the west of Pittsburgh, on the Pacific Ocean coast, where there are no pen shops within a hundred miles of me..

Funny you should mention! I have been a fan of Nemosine for a bit, but I had no idea that they were under the larger banner of the Birmingham Pen Co., until just the other day. I must have spent 2 hours looking through everything on their site, and finally ordering far too many inks. I couldn’t pass on so many of the ‘Burgh themed titles! I’m also really liking some of the 6th Street and Model A fountain pens. I will do my best to be patient, and wait until their retail store opens, which is supposed to be in a couple of months. Then I will have the rare opportunity to see all of the designs in person, and test them out, before making a decision.

Thanks for the hello - Have a great one

    - Have you ever been to Budapest? You are right. Budapest is a beautiful city. There are lots of interesting historic and modern buildings, the Buda castle, the river Donau, theatres, etc. In one word: You must see, if you have a chance.

    - Sorry for that, but I didn't know about your moving away until now.
