Default Ink Review: Cult Pens Iridescink Maureen (Made by Diamine Inks)

Cult Pens Iridescink Maureen ink is one of the two new iridescent metallic sheening inks that are exclusively made for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks.
Cult Pens describe them as being a bit different and a bit more unusual because they are made to sheen.

Maureen is a very saturated, medium to dark blue ink that can exhibit some very nice contrasting red sheen. There are several other similar blue inks that sheen red, but Maureen compares well against Parker Penman Sapphire, Diamine Skull & Roses and Jalur Gemilang. Jalur Gemilang has a more obvious red sheen.

Maureen flowed well with all of the pens I tried it in, felt slightly dryish, and it’s lubrication was nicely smooth across the page. It dried quite quickly and didn’t smear after it was completely dry.

In order to see the sheen properly, it’s better to write with pens that lay down plenty of ink, and use smooth, non-absorbent paper. I could still see red sheen when writing with my Lamy Al-Star F nib.

I used Xerox ColorPrint 100gsm smooth coated paper, that is not absorbent, and I saw no spread or show-through.

Available in 30ml plastic and 80ml glass bottles from Cult Pens web-site

    • Flow Rate: Very good - slightly dryish
    • Lubrication: Good - felt smooth across the page
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Very saturated
    • Shading Potential: Some seen with the F nib.
    • Sheen: Red sheen seen on several of the papers I used.
    • Show-Through: Not much seen on the papers I used.
    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen on any paper I used.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen
    • Staining (pen): Not seen after several days - easy clean-up
    • Staining (hands): Maureen needed a couple of hand washes before it completely disappeared.
    • Clogging: Not seen.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, and shows no water resistance at all.
