Have read this post with interest.

Personally I still can not understand why anyone would wish to remove any personalisation on a pen.

You remove what it actually is.

About 5 months ago, as a test of my skill I removed a name from the pen shown.

There only two methods for a perfect finish.

    Farmboy half mentioned one.

Good luck using any chemicals - you will destroy the molecular structure.

Have added a photograph of restored 1mm heat pressed gold lettered name.
You will not see anything unless you use a micrometer and 20 magnification.

If you are an expert at this - have a good look at the straight reflection lines - that is the ultimate test of finish.

It looks very well done. How did you do it?

Ok so mine arrived and I decided to give it a go based on some of the advice above.

It did turn out to be the gold foil heat embossed method mentioned above.

Having a close inspection of the letters it was obvious that during the hear pressing the letters had a raised edge as the displaced plastic rose up around each letter so they were not as deep as they first looked.

I thought I would give the heat method a go first and knowing heat can do more harm than good, the first thing I did was to turn down a brass rod to be a snug fit in the barrel, to hopefully avoid any heat related distortion. Next with the finest nozel on my heat gun I gently applied the airflow to the lettering and was most surprised to see after only a short time the gold foil at the bottom of the lettering rose up level with the barrel, and once cooled all it it needed was a quick polish and the name was gone with no visible sign it was ever there in the first place.

Had a second bit of good luck with the non working vac filler, I had all the tools and parts needed to replace the packing and seals, but was then advised to give the rejuvenation method a go before drilling out the old packing.

So the fully stripped barrel was left soaking in water overnight. Next day I rebuilt the pen using a new plunger washer as the old one was well past it's sell by date, with a smear of silicone grease on the seal and plunger shaft, and was most surprised to see when I tested it to see it will to about 3/4 full first go.

So no work needed to the packing (for now at least) .

Nice result for very little work, not going to be my new daily writer though as the nib turned out to be what writes like an XXF nail, it could write a novel on a postage stamp well almost, now to hunt down a nice jucey medium, let the new addiction begin.
