Default Sheaffer Imperial IV with cracked barrel

    Hi all

I have just taken deliver of a Sheaffer Imperial IV with a nice juicy broad nib at a price too good to just send it back, but it has a crack about 10mm long on the end of the barrel where the blind cap fits.

Whats the best glue to use to get a good strong repair, would Acetone or MEK do a good job or is something else recommended.

Thanks for any help or tips on this repair

    Paul

Acetone will melt the barrel and should definitely not be used. I'm not sure whether MEK would do a good job either. I have used my old trusty Araldite 2020 to repair cracks in Kaweco caps, that have been able to be posted afterwards with no problem. However, I appreciate it's too expensive for many people to have in their kit. I wouldn't buy it now, I only use it because I already have it.

We have a very local Buck & Hickman. I bought my pack there.

Ok, so went with the MEK option using a dental Band Clamp to hold it overnight until full cured then micromeshed and polished.

Pen is back in use and a strong lupe is needed to see any sign of a repair and as this was a for me pen because of the nib I am more than happy with the result.

Where do you get a dental band clamp in the UK?

I see that and all I can think of is "This one time at band clamp...".

Cool Re: Sheaffer Imperial IV with cracked barrel

I get them on eBay £5.95 for 2

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Deal-of-T...r/273696775026

Then just cut thin strips of the brass sheeting sold for cleaning between the nib tines I get mine from here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brass-Shi...5/222970998362

They do a nice job of applying even pressure around a round object like a barrel or your teeth or something else if you go to "Band Camp"

I believe we would all be pleased if you posted some pictures of the repaired pen.

Not all repairs are in the form of "the pen looks like new". It can be still admirable to view a pen brought back to good, useable condition. No one expects miracles.
