Default Small ladies pocket pen, no brand

I have an old pen, it's pre WWII, but I don't know if it's 1920s or 30s. The main cap covering the nib is octagonal silver, and there is a matching silver sleeve that slides on to the barrel. The barrel is black, solid all the way except for a small screw-on cap on top; under the cap there is a push filler. When I managed to get it appart, I found the remains of a rubber sack and the spring-vaccume mechanism reasonably intact.

The odd thing is the barrel, it's solid all the way from top to bottom, on top is the small cap covering the push mechanism, bottom has a gold nib and the wedge shaped feed part. I can't figure out how the sack was fitted. It was hard to wiggle the remains of it out and I guess even worse to get a new one in. There is no separate section to fit the sack on. Have you ever heard of a pen like that?

I don't know if it's worth repairing, but I will give it an attempt. The nib is tiny, marked "14ct Warranted Quality" and needs to be replaced, the tip is ruined. The silver end cap has "930S" stamped on the clip along with something like a jewlers logo or initials. I can't post picutures yet, I will hopefully be able to add any tomorrow. Any thoughts just from the description?

Thanks for the welcome Jar. This is the best I could manage, it didn't turn out as clear as I hoped. I have been told it was a good, well behaved pen. I've had this pen stored in a box for years and it has never worked as long as I have had it. The nib is sort of generic, but still a nice quality. Does anyone recognise the type of the barrel - rubber sack fitting? I can't find much searching the web.

It's a button filler, I can't tell which brand.. They are not difficult to repair and there are several sites online that will explain how this is done. A replacement warranted nib should not be hard to source.

If this is the only pen you're going to repair, it might be better to send it out to an expert. If you're going to do it yourself, you will need a sac, pure talc and shellac.

I have found detailed tutorials on how to disassemble, clean and replace rubber sacks, however, not for this type of pen. The trouble is the nib and feed wedge go directly into the barrel, there no separate section to fit the sac on, like with most pens of this type. Any suggestion on how to approach it or link to information is appreciated.

Could you show a better photo of the barrel, especially toward the nib end?

My camera is misbehaving and goes in and out of focus. On the pluss side I found a similar pen to mine, A Parker lucky curve. I searched for "pen button filler silver overlay" and it's the closest thing so far. The barrel is 8 cm long and the inner diameter is 1/2 cm wide, it's the tinest pen ever. They seem to be able to restore the similar type Parker pens. It might not be a ladies pen, just a general tiny pocket version.

You're absolutely certain that the section won't detach?

To me it looks solid, but absolutely certain I'm not. I found an ebay seller who had a similar restored pen for sale, he took a look at the pictures and said it was detacheable. According to him all it needs is a bit of heat and patience. Hair dryer? Oven?

Hair dryer. And patience. Section pliers if you have them. If not, rubber gloves can give a good grip. The section may be threaded.

It came appart! Bain marie (water bath?) with paper towel in the pan. Like mentioned, it's likely not a ladies pen, just small and easy to fit in a pocket or any where.

I think I will order two sizes of sacks to try. I have not yet managed to find a replacement nib, are there any standards to go by?

It looks like the sac size will be 16 or possibly 14. I don't know where you are based, but your best bet will be to watch ebay UK for low-cost old pens with warranted nibs.

Thanks for the size suggestion. I'm in Norway, and it looks like rubber sacks come from the US, all sellers seem to be situated there, non in the UK? I know there are expert repair and maintanance shops in the UK, but I have only heard mention of them. The trouble is the size, it looks like it will involve measuring and a bit of test and trial. I just discovered some do nib repairs (doesn't not take on new customers at the moment!), I'm sure it's rather cost prohibitive. A second hand nib might turn up.

If the nib is just bent out of shape that can be repaired at a reasonable cost. If it requires re-tipping, that's much more expensive than buying a scrap pen to use the nib from it. If you want to use a UK source for sacs, the Pendragons are very good.
