Default Recommend a black ink cartridge?

I am gifting a pen to a beginner and would like to provide her with some black cartridges, standard international. Can anyone recommend a black cartridge ink that is very black and wet? The pen is a bit dry and the nib is fine. Gracias.

Most cartridges I have had were quick drying. It's been a while since I used cartriges, but Pelikan 4001 brilliant black comes out pretty black compared to some inks (I think the cartridge says just black, but is the same ink). I like Parker Quink, it's not the darkest in comparison tests, but I keep bying this ink. It's nice and black on white and ivory colored paper and works very well in pens that doesn't let out too much ink. These are easy to find. Maybe someting that rinses out easily is beginner friendly? How many brands make filled cartridges? I think Herbin and Mont Blanc should be possilbe to find.

Thanks. I like Perle Noir. Never tried MB black. I'd like to try the PR Velvet Black, too. I like Noodlers HOD, but doesn't come in cartridges.

Just go for Herbin Perle Noire then, it's a fine ink, the history of the name might be appreciated. From my point of view all of the inks mentioned are nice and good quality. You can always a step out of what you are used to, something aimed for a specific purpose, quality or for experimentation. Now and then a new favorite comes along. For most of us, either of these should do well. One of the reasons I happily recommend Parker, is I can usually write on all the paper people complain about bleeding through the pages or feathering; if the pen is not particularly wet. At the moment I'm mostly thinking about Moleskine notebooks.

Herbin Perle Noire is as good a choice as any. Maybe Aurora Black would also be nicely black too.

+1 on the J. Herbin Perle Noire, my favorite black ink that's safe for vintage pens. I would also recommend a bright color such as Herbin Rose Cyclamen. The cartridges come in a handy little tin so you can pull out 3 Perle Noires and add 3 Rose Cyclamens. Life isn't all about just Black and Blue inks. That's the advantage of c/c fountain pens!

    All the Best.

    For a beginner?
Diamine Jet Black or Waterman Black should work fine in any pen
