The Seldom Used.
Mine are like the tide: they come, they go. Under a certain price, I donate. Over, I may try to sell.
My other pen is a Montblanc.
And my other blog is a tumblr!

As I am getting older and confronting mortality, I am mainly using the few Fountain pens I used during my career and the very few that are of sentimental value. Then there are the Parker 51s I used Ariel Kullock hoods, barrels and caps to make into colorful collectibles.
A big BCHR Swan and a solid gold Mabie Todd have been neglected for years, waiting their turn to be inked. I know their nibs are great, but so are the nibs in the several pens I already have inked! So they'll just have to wait a while longer (no telling how long "a while" shall be).

This is the situation I find myself in. I discovered I had cancer last week and for some years now my hands have stiffened up. I may be obliged to try to sell some of my more unusual pens. I do have this fear that my pens, which I have valued so much, will end up in the hands of philistines.

Very sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear, scrawler.

Having hand and joint issues, fibromyalgia, blockages in both legs, costchondritis (super severe chest pain not related to heart issues), other assorted "itis's" and the inability to be normal for more than a half hour at a time--I can feel pretty awful most of the day. That is until I realize that for all of my troubles there are many others more deserving of sympathy and understanding. So very sorry for your affliction.
It becomes quite frustrating when you can't do the things you once enjoyed. I have seen costochondritis up close, and I deeply sympathize. Someone close to me has suffered from it for years and I know how bad the pain must be. We have been trying to find triggers and treatments.
Wow. For someone who is just building up a moderate collection, and simply sometimes just "plays" with them (with all of them), this rational, practical, honesty is a bit of a cold shower, a foreshadow of different times. Winter is coming...
Anyway, not for me. I very gladly anticipate the delivery of my higher ends. Apparently a Nakaya shipment will land in some two weeks...
Dear all, I just realize I responded to the last post on the first page of this thread. I therefore missed all the subsequent ones with the sad news. I apologize for what now looks like a very lighthearted response. Needless to say I am very sorry to hear those updates and I wish strength to those to coop with it,
My black chased hard rubber pens do not see the use they probably should - whether they are totally hard rubber or have just hard rubber end pieces. I am particularly thinking of a very nice Parker Lucky Curve Jack Knife button filler I have - nice medium-ish nib and all. My office gets a lot of sunlight and has both south and westerly windows. I hate to say it, but I don't use the hard rubber pens as much as I should simply because I don't feel like having them discolor as they sit on my desk near the windows.
And I worry more about the celluloid than the hard rubber, so long as I don't drop them.
And I worry about carrying my more expensive pens out of the house, because I'm afraid I might lose them.
Sigh.

Scrawler, this is hard news.
