This thread says more about the quality of fountain pens over ballpoints than anything else ever could.
No matter how beautiful the handwriting, the quality of the ink on the paper and the legibility of the ballpoint is dismal.
OK I've been known to use a ballpoint "sometimes!"
Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,
Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

There is a haunting melody that runs through all of Manny’s work, that marks it as distinctive.
His ballpoint pen techniques reveal a competence that can only come from talent that has been put through its paces- his work exudes the quality that comes only from the hard work of application and quest.
Opalescent colors of subtle tones can be suddenly juxtaposed to bright opaque patches expertly placed to jolt the senses, an experience that many referred to as the ‘rusty nail’ that brings us up with a shock to the senses and draws us, the viewer in for a closer look, to be rewarded by the more quiet changes in mood effected by the masterly use of a ballpoint marking that lulls us to a sense of security.

I wish my 'careful' handwriting looked as good as Manny's 'scribble.'

An interesting thing I've found is that after a year basically only using fountain pens, whenever I use a ballpoint I enjoy the novelty!
"What are moon-letters?" asked the hobbit full of excitement. He loved maps, as I have told you before; and he also loved runes and letters, and cunning handwriting, though when he wrote himself it was a bit thin and spidery.

That is just amazing the way you literally bend the ballpoint to do your will.
