Default Desk set with a speaker, perfect for a fountain pen and ham radio nerd

I won this on ebay. I've never seen one before. It should be perfect for my ham radio station (I already have an Esterbrook desk pen there)

I wonder how common they are?

    cheers! Mike

Is it possible that this was used as an office intercom?

Yeah, office intercom or perhaps even a speaker-phone was my first guess. Although, either one would require a microphone as well...

The speaker come could double as a microphone diaphragm. A transducer is a transducer.

Well, it cleaned up nicely and now it's back in service! I did swap the strange telephone style speaker out for a normal 8ohm unit. The old speaker had, what looks to be, a date stamp of 1/53 on it. Which jives with the snorkel size trumpet.

I need to find a black snorkel desk pen now... The only one I've got is brown

Anyway, I've got it wired up to my 2m ham radio. It sounds great!
