HisNibs.com update -- Pinstripes and Desert Sands
May 30th, 2011

Greetings,

It's been awhile since we've introduced a new model from Duke. It was worth the wait, with the arrival of the Pinstripes.

As the temperatures begin to soar and Memorial Day habitually begins the summer beach season, what could be more appropriate than Jinhao's Desert Sands pen?

The great Monteverde Charisma convertible pen (ballpoint, gel or rollerball inserts) brings gorgeous new patterns to the line.

New pens demand a new pen roll pattern from Lai Yee. This one is Giraffes.

DUKE Pinstripes

Another beautiful lacquer-over-brass pen design from DUKE, the Pinstripe is a classy, understated pen with chrome highlights. It's a full-sized pen, measuring 5-1/4" capped, 6" posted and 4-1/2" with cap held aside and has a pleasing heft without being at all tiring during long writing sessions.

The steel nib, an indented spear shape, is finished with white 22K gold-plate and attests to that fact with '22KGP' within a modified scallop shell engraving. The DUKE crown logo is also reproduced here. The nib size, like virtually all DUKE models, is what I describe as a light-medium, falling in between a typical western fine and medium.

Jinhao Desert Sands

This pen proved to be a difficult one to photograph, due to the sand-like sparkles that become most apparent in 'real life'.

This is a full-sized pen as these things are currently adjudged, measuring 5-1/2" capped and 6-1/4" posted and a touch over 5" with cap held aside.

When I write with this pen, I can't help thinking of Lawrence of Arabia -- hence the name I've given it.

Monteverde Charisma

Note: My stock of these won't arrive until the 3rd or 4th of June. I just wanted to be certain to include them in this newsletter.

Although these new finishes are not strictly new -- as they've been available for awhile -- they are new to His Nibs.com.

The Charisma was one of the first Monteverde pen designs that attracted me to the company, over a decade ago. My favorite and most-used ballpoint is a Charisma that I've used for all of that time. I'm very glad to see that the line has been continued, with these new colors/finishes.

It's a convertible pen, in that it will take Parker-format ballpoint, gel or rollerball refills.

Giraffe pen roll from Lai Yee

Lai Yee's latest pen roll pattern is a whimsical look at Giraffes. Seen from a distance, the giraffes take on the appearance of the grassland they typically inhabit.

Although shown in the 8-pen format, as with all of her offerings, this pattern can also be employed in the 4-pen roll, 4-pen envelope and 2-pen pouch.

On the blog...short video of our WWII vets

The May 27th entry links to a short, 2-minute video about the 'Operation Resolve', the effort to get as many WWII veterans to visit their memorial in Washington, D.C. -- at no cost to themselves.

We lose approximately 1000 WWII veterans each day.
