    Default OS Balance Star pen

Here's a black OS Balance with a 5-point Star emblem between the top of its 14K clip and its White Dot, and a wider than Autograph 14K uninscribed cap band.

So far, we know there's 4 Sheaffer's OS Balance Star pens:
    1. R A Thompson / Hobart Star Club / 1941
    2. Walter Young, Hobart Star Club 1938
    3. H.C. Belore, Hobart Star Club 1938
    4. Uninscribed

I don't know what the Hobart Star Club was exactly.

The Hobart Corporation started manufacturing motors that were attached to the large flywheels of hand-operated coffee mills. Later, they introduced electric meat choppers. In the 1930's they made food choppers, weight scales, food mixers, electric slicers, etc. Today they provide commercial foodservice equipment. Could the Star Club be an outstanding salesman's award?

Found that Lieutenant Harold Charles Belore, Canadian Expeditionary Force 150th Regiment, served in the RAF British Royal Flying Corps. Also found several Walter Young individuals on same regiment and several men with last name Thompson and R. A. initials on same regiment. Could the Star Club be for outstanding military service?

I may be wrong on both counts and we may never find about the Star Club in the late 30's to early 40's. I would like to thank Pat and Dinkhart for letting meknow about their Star pens and invite other collectors on the discussion to increase our knowledge.

The star and wider than Autograph band seem to be done by Sheaffer.

The dates shown would not indicate military service awards, remember the US did not even enter WWII officially until December 8th, 1941.

He was not US but Canadian. They volunteered from the beginning of WWII.

Interesting. Where were the pens made? Are they from Ft Madison or the Canadian plant?

Jar: so far all are from Fort Madison. An ex-employee remembered seeing similar stars on pens and desk bases commissioned to US Army generals. He also pointed that Craig Sheaffer had a friendship with Dwight Eisenhower.

I have solid proof that these were awarded by the Hobart company of Troy, Ohio.

Belore and Robbins (my pen, just discovered recently) were both Hobart employees. I have been in contact with a longtime Hobart employee who found them in his grandfather’s Hobart QCC (Quarter Century Club, 25 year employees). It was a sales award. I’m working on a short article about it now. Do you own one? I’d like to include photos of all five known examples.

So yours had the white dot above the star, correct? It looks to me like (2) 1938 and my 1940 have the white dot 180 degrees from the clip on the back, while an unengraved one and a 1941 have the dot above the star and clip in its normal position on the front. Am I tracking that properly?
