    Default A Returning Geek

    Hi all ,
It has been about a year since my last post. I got sucked head first into another hobby. How have things been going over here? Has anything really changed in the community in the last year?

Fred, I love the progression there. Actually, I got really into pipe smoking (tobacco). I find it quite relaxing and meditative—plus, it pairs well with fountain pens. I have also been head first finishing the research and writing for my dissertation, which has required too much screen time and not enough hand writing.

I was gifted a couple twsbis recently. I really like the Eco. What a great pen. The quality and writing experience is up there with the big boys (Pelikan, Pilot, Sailor, Lamy).

I like mine too. One was my OH's first (and up until this week, only) fountain pen - he decided he'd like another pen or two, and after letting him try a bunch of mine in the price range he wanted, he decided on getting another two Ecos! They're a good size, he didn't like many of the smaller pens.

If you haven't learned of Mark Hoover's pen and pipe restoration products, you should.

His work is beautiful. I find the connections between hobbies to be interesting, such as the use of ebonite, the white dot as a logo (First with Dunhill and then Sheaffer's), and restorers.

I have not purchased a new pen or ink in such a long time. I found the inks I like, such as Diamine Ancient Copper, Pelikan Topaz, Sailor Rikyu Cha, and Sailor Seiboku. That said I am excited to try some new inks. I am heading to Den Haag for work for the next month and I can't wait to go to Akkerman, La Couronne du Comte, and Appelboom. I have only purchased items from them by the interwebs.

I smoked a pipe on and off for years. I wish I still could, but my heart doesn't like nicotine. Sigh. I still have some gorgeous pipes that I can't let go of, and I love the smell of pipe tobacco.

    Anyway, welcome back!!

It comes, it goes. I always use fountain pens, but the hobby aspect waxes and wanes.

I still have most of my pipes hidden away somewhere, with jars of tobacco untouched for 25 years. Every time I see a physician they ask if I smoke, and I tell them that I plan to start again when I am 80.
