This comment from Jon prompted me to take another photo of fountain pens following an architectural motif. Here it is:

For more than 10 years, the same Moleskine notebook has always accompanied me on vacation. I use it to record the places of my vacation with at least one sketch per place. But since I don't travel much, the book has lasted and will last a long time.

I pulled it out today for the start of my vacations.

Rather by random, I came to this little fountain pen. Actually, I do not collect Montblanc pens, but I get weak again and again to the charm of these great writing instruments.

My new acquisition is a MONTBLANC 322, which was produced between 1935 and 1938. These small fountain pens are especially popular with collectors in colored celluloid. The color of my pen is described as "malachite green" in the book "Collectible Starts I" .

The special thing about this fountain pen is its condition. I could hardly find any signs of use except for some dried blue ink on the nib (unlike the blind cap, which is a spare part, as the pen came to me without it).

The ink sac had was hard, but was free of ink. Odd...!
I disassembled the pen, cleaned everything, put in a new sac, and reassembled the pen. When I went to fill it, I found that the fountain pen would not fill! The cause was that the pressure bar inside the barrel was a very tiny bit too short and obviously since the beginning...!

That's probably why there was no ink in the sac. The original owner must have given up trying to fill his fountain pen in frustration and put it away. The blind cap probably also got lost in that process.

Why the fountain pen was never repaired, or why the manufacturer's warranty was not invoked, can no longer be found out. In any case, this explains the condition of the fountain pen. Of course, I replaced the pressure bar, and the fountain pen finally writes as it should - after about 85 years!

What particularly excites me about the old Montblanc is the care with which they were designed and manufactured, all the small but important details! Just one small, typical example: the ink feeder of these fountain pens are elaborately worked to ensure that even the last drop of ink gets onto the paper.

Therefore, ink channels are also milled on the underside of the feed, which transport the last drops to a ring groove and thus to the upper side of the feeder when the ink level is low. Simply ingenious!
