You can never have enough stuff.

You planning on ' kicking the bucket ' soon ?

Me, I am going to live forever !
At 70, with diabetes and macular generation, no telling how much longer I will be able to read. Buying the farm might happen at any time. Living forever would be great as long as I have 51s.

If I may, has anyone seen any the solid pastel colour aero shells ?

In cocoa, orange, yellow et al

I am guessing these are the late 2000's

Trying to decide from the scraps offered what is worth buying.

I didn't mean to upset you. This stuff happens, and you have to keep laughing about it, lest it should get you down.

The Kullock made pens were fun to put together, and you can learn things about 51s from changing the shell and barrel. I used to buy some Kullock parts in standard colors like midnight blue and use them to replace damaged parts from 51s. Penpartsstore on ebay has some Kullock parts now. The finished pens are a bit pricey. You can buy the shell and/or barrel in colors you might like and fit them to a 51 in colors that are duplicates in your collection. Something to think about.

I've had a few Kullock pens (including a dead ringer for that all-blue one, I might have sold that person that one.)
I have some of his caps now and they are really singular pieces of art.

I've also met Ariel at pen shows here and there. He is nice and has a beautiful family.

I don't know why he isn't doing as much any more and I won't speculate, but the work he did while he did it is a treasure trove for 51 lovers who like different stuff.

Many thanks to pajaro & manoeuver for their comments.

I really think some of the shells he made were very special.

If anyone else has any experience of buying any shells I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Any photography and comments would be great.

    Many thanks

My humble Kullock collection. I believe he did the hammered caps and the Canadian Sterling Silver cap, which has the lines buffed out to look like a Lustraloy cap,but I have now way of being certain. The orange "shark skin" barrel has a small crack in it. The demonstrator blind cap will not line up correctly without a small gap, and the whole thing has a strange taper towards the end of the blind cap. The candy red cap and barrel both cracked on me, the material is beautiful, but super thin. I really enjoy the orange cap but I don't own a clip that will fit it, maybe a vacumatic clip will. I just put a black jewel in it that I had extra. The yellow dual pen is a vacumatic. I replaced the filler but have no desire to use it. The pencil works, the barrel needs a clutch ring and a nib, feed, and collector. If someone could use the dual pen or the red parts let me know. I would sell them. I really like the snail pen, it has a Minuskin stub and the cap is a very nice sterling silver original (I believe). Matching cap and blind cap jewel on the beige pen.

I have seen them called shark skin and even avacado, but I don't know what Kullock referred to them as.

I love the Kullocks shown on this thread; I have three, a purple one, and the boring old Vac and Aero demonstrators which don't look good in a photo at all - but then having a Vac demo is ***so cooool*** to watch when you ink it.

My flashiest is the Bexley version - another fantasy 51 done in lovely rippled ebonite. Must get a picture when I get back home - I'm travelling till Sunday.

    Linkinyeah,

What a great collection, they are amazing to look at.

Now I definitely want a few of these shells and caps.

Particularly liked pajaro's words ' The Kullock made pens were fun to put together '

Can you tell me please, with the Hammer Cap - did you just add an arrow clip, screw and jewel ?

Yes, or they were already on it when I bought them, I can't remember.

Have been offered a couple, will possibly have them.

No clips, screws or jewels - will have find them from some damaged caps which I do not have. ( All mine are complete & mint )

If you are interested, these type of caps actually have a name.

    AK called them Martelé caps

The meaning - Martelé (French; Italian martellato), literally "hammered," is a bowstroke, used when playing bowed string instruments, though the Italian martellando and martellato are also applied to piano and vocal technique, and even (by Franz Liszt) to the organ (Milsom 2002). The effect is usually produced by holding the bow against the string with pressure, then releasing it explosively to produce a sharp, biting attack with a rest between strokes (Cooke 2001). Some violinists use it when playing staccato notes.
( you have to smile, this chap is clearly well read )

Those Kullocks you have are cool, as is the Bexely. I have only the barrel from the Bexley, with a black hood. There is a real value in the Vacumatic demonstrator, showing how that filler works.

Have never heard of an ebonite shells before.

    For those interested -

Ebonite is a brand name for very hard rubber first obtained by vulcanizing natural rubber for prolonged periods. Besides natural rubber, Ebonite contains about 25–80% sulfur and linseed oil. Its name comes from its intended use as an artificial substitute for ebony wood.

    My education continues.

I am told a green version was made too.

AK only ever used 1960's Lucite. ( The same as the Parker originals )

In french, marteler is the action of hitting metal with a hammer, which is what AK does to produce his caps.
