    Default Ariel Kullock Parker 51’s

Over the last week or so I have been looking at Ariel Kullock Parker 51’s shells.

I thought they were quite remarkable.

He clearly has had a lot of help from former USA Janesville engineers.

The shells are an exact copy – they are the same – 1960’s Lucite, made 1999 - 2006

Obviously the P51 purists will hate them.

Does anyone have any of these shells in a P51?

    Would like any comments please.

Not a great shot, but here's one I have:

    Jon,

    What an amazing pen.

Still trying to pick my jaw up from the table.

The thing that first drew my interest to his products were the different cap jewels.

All made from the same 1960’s Lucite as the originals – the pattern actually runs through the entire jewel – it is not just a top finish. They are an exact size match.

Thought this was very clever, both an engineering and innovative masterpiece.

Sometimes a very small change can make a big difference.

    Possibly not to everyone's taste.

I have several I have bought within the past year I will post pictures when I get a chance. I have run into some issues with a demonstrator double jewel and some weak parts of other colors and designs.

A photograph of a P51 with a yellow pearl lower shell.

You will either like it or hate it.

I thought it totally changed the look of a standard black aero.

    The fit was perfect.

The inner tapered angle has been increased to align perfectly with the connector - there is no need for a rubber O ring.
This is the work of a former highly skilled Parker engineer / designer

nb still keep looking at Jon's amazing pen, possibly I need to get out more........

After 84 views I am surprised so few have expressed an opinion.

    Like them or dislike them.

I thought his products were very clever, they are better made ( more refined ) than the originals using the same materials.
Obviously he had the advantage of later production technology

    I had this one:

Never should've sold it, probably wouldn't have done so if it had a gold cap. [While I am still many shades of stupid, I was more so back then]

A great many thanks for posting a photograph of your pen.

I am going to guess it was produced 1999 - 2001.

Possibly the best shells I have ever seen.

I would walk over hot coals to have one.

Currently I appear to sorting through the scraps of his designs, still think they are great but never seen anything like this before.

I believe the material was called Red Centennial. A member on FPN had a complete 51 made in Blue Centennial (including the cap!).

Found it - FPN net lifts.

I like the Red version better.

    These:

    http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/fo...426_140607.jpg

The bottom pen, with the green and black swirly barrel, is a Bexley barrel on a 51, black shell.

The others have shells same as barrel color. There are two swirly yellow semi-translucent pens. The one with a spring is a ballpoint matching a fountain pen.

The story is that Ariel Kullock bought the machinery and parts and Lucite stock from the Parker plant in Argentina. Parker made pens there. I have an Industria Argentina 51 in burgundy. It is just as good as a USA made 51. The burgundy on my pen is slightly lighter in color, more like a dark carmine.

Aside from not being a fan of the yellow lucites or hammered caps, the rest of it looks amazing.

The jewels are an amazing touch of detail. I have a feeling these are too costly for me to justify buying, otherwise I would pick up one of these designs in a heartbeat.

I really like EOCs old pen, the blue, and the green swirl.

I bought the hoods, barrels and sometimes caps from Kullock on ebay when he was active, usually for about $40 or less for a hood and barrel, and converted a 51 I already had. I am too cheap to buy the pens already done. As a collector I think I should be willing to do work like this myself. I started doing this when I had a number of 51s and wanted brighter colors. I think I should have done several more in orange, red and Centennial Blue. Now, at 70, I don't want to buy a lot more stuff for my wife to have to get rid of when I kick the bucket.

I know that there 2 members here who have actually met Ariel Kullock, and possibly have him on speed dial.

Guess that they are just too busy at present to comment.

Me - still sorting through the scraps of 2006 - 2008 productions, nothing special compared to the pens shown above.
( I still like them though, to me they are rather special )

You keep saying this in various threads. Try to keep in mind that while people may be members of a forum, they may not be active on a daily basis. It isn't uncommon for a member to pop up after weeks or months of no posting. FPG is not an extremely active forum, anyway. Inattention to your threads does not mean they are uninteresting, but may be more a result of low traffic.

    Jon,

A great many thanks for taking the time to comment.

    I greatly appreciate it.

The last thing I lack is patience.

Never realised this was a low traffic forum, it does not appear so.

Actually, I just got back from running errands and I'm glad to see your response: in retrospect I was worried that it might have come off in a poor tone or like a lecture. I'm glad you took it in positive spirit. Yes, there is a fair amount of traffic here but a lot of churn with newer users and not as much continual input from the older (long-time) members. Just be patient, you'd be surprised how often something will get answered down the road.

The one caveat I'll offer is this: there aren't nearly as many of the seasoned, professional members of vintage and repair areas. I know that there are a fair number that still post on FPN. When people ask about how to repair some specific arcane vintage pen/pen problem here on FPG, I cringe because I know they may not get a reply that helps. Just a thought.
