Default I spotted this Parker Pen on ebay:

I spotted this Parker pen on ebay.co.uk and couldn't help but see the irony in the title.

Especially when I got to the last two photographs of it.

    True enough.

I suppose it's possible that someone might be able to fix it as it's a gold nib.

Why no love for this very rare "reverse Waverly" nib?

Seriously - on top of the damage, doesn't that nib look like it is way too small for the pen? Is it even the proper nib in there?

I have no idea if it's the right nib or not but, you're right, it does look small for the pen. On the other hand it looks even smaller now it's all scrunched up at the tip.

IMHO, it is eminently repairable, though it's up to the owner whether the expense is worth it.

That nib would be easy to burnish back into shape. It does not appear to have any cracks. The body of these pens can be a bit fragile. They were made to be affordable student pens during the depression era when the Duofold was a bit pricey. This is why the smaller nib. This pen was also known as "Moderne".

Thank you for the information. Parker Moderne is a much better name than Parker Depression pen.

I thought Parker's "Moderne" referred only to two Duofold celluloid patterns and colors, but I learned that it also refers to a pen that Parker made in Canada:

FYI: http://www.richardspens.com/ref/gloss/M.htm and scroll to Moderne.

The Duette and Moderne are essentially the same pen but named for the different markets.

Pens get damaged. You cannot fix them all, as much as we all might wish it so.

    Sometimes I lament the fallen.

Mike Masuyama could get that nib looking brand new.

Yeah, you can get the nib fixed almost so you can't see any bending, or so no bend is visible, for a price, as said before. You could also bend it back to workability, but some bend or crease might be visible, yourself.

Yep - here is a picture if a Canadian "Moderne" between two Challengers. Not as pretty (in my opinion) as the US Depression Moderne plastic options.

Don't be too hasty in lamenting the fallen.
I originally bought this pen for the clip but found it too good to harvest for parts.

I think it scrubbed up quite well.

From what I understand, Black is one of the less common colors in this pen series.
It fits in quite nicely with the other two I have, all three are Canadian made.

As for the nib, well it was never going to win any beauty awards, but it writes like a champ now.
The nib is not correct for this pen, it would originally have been fitted to a U.K. aerometric Duofold (the 10 on the nib is a size reference).
So I will be on the lookout for a correct era (straight) nib.

I hope I have brought a little joy to all that felt the depression.

    Paul.

You made a great job. I feel that all these old pens are precious and I'm glad that you restored it rather than consigning it to the parts bin.
