Calamus: It's a tough schedule! Anything you do get done is a win

Prompt: Misfit
I got new bleach! Inks on top are Monteverde Yosemite Green, Krishna Inks Causal, Noodler's Sequoia Green (it went purple when diluted), last panel was Robert Oster Purple Rock, but the browns bled in so I repeated it. Middle inks are KWZ Baltic Memories and Pure Pens Beddgelert. Bottom inks are Robert Oster Purple Rock, Krishna Inks Jungle Volcano 2, KWZ Newky Brown. The inks were diluted with water, then left a long time to dry and the bleach done the next day along with some drawing over it to make things stand out.

So, I’ve decided to come out and play Inktober. I will endeavor to produce and post a new image every day this month, either calligraphy or drawing or just plain writing, or even scribbling or doodling. On topic or off topic. Can’t guarantee I’ll be able to run the full course but I’ll give it a shot. I haven’t done much drawing or calligraphy for years, but have started getting back to them a little, and I figure that maybe by the end of the month both my calligraphy and my drawing will have improved. I was never great (as in awesome) at either, but I’ve had fun with them, and every now and then something nice managed to come out of my pen.

It's the inscription that appeared inside the band of the One Ring after Gandalf threw it into Bilbo’s fireplace. The hand is very ancient Elvish, but the language is the barbarous tongue of Mordor:

Ash nazg durbatulûk ash nazg gimbatul
Ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

It’s English translation is, of course:

One Ring to Rule them all, one Ring to find them
One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness Bind them

The pen is a 1934 or ’35 Sheaffer Balance with an oblique stub.
The ink is Diamine Rustic Brown.
I also cheated a little, and prettified it slightly in Photoshop.

Thanks for that. At some point during Inktober last year I tried to copy the text onto a ring and found it difficult to work out what some of the characters actually were. Now, I know.

The background is Noodler's Sequoia Green and water, with bleach on top. The person-shaped silhouette in the middle was serendipity! This ink was an impulse purchase at the most recent pen show - I'd got El Lawrence and Lexington Gray since I liked my samples, and this one looked like it might be my thing.

This is the background only when wet. Some of the light areas look sandy before they dry, at which point they end up taupe, with a purple hint.
