Default TIPS for a Dallas Pen Show Newbie....

Looking forward to attending the Dallas Pen show next week to check it out. I am a newbie to these and want to make sure I know what to look for and also not to offend.... So far....

    • Bring cash (to limit the spend and since some vendors will only take cash)
    • Ask about a price before touching any pens.
    • Keep offers private
    • Go early
    • Bring a bag
    • Bring snacks

Anything else.... like what usually moves first, things you can only find at shows worth checking out, etc? Unicorn pens worth hunting down?

    Any and all tips welcome!

    - Bring more cash (i.e., double your anticipated budget).

    - Make a friend of Pete Kirby.

You got this. Just go slow and engage the vendors by asking "What is your specialty?".
You'd learn a lot from the answer to this question.

Also feel free to stop by and say hi!
My table will be in the larger room, straight ahead from the doorway and have a sign that says Redeem Pens.

We also have a few high-schoolers who are volunteering, and they would be happy to give first timers a tour of the show.

Thanks for posting this. These tips seem applicable beyond just Dallas... I'll be a newbie at the Colorado show in Oct.

I'm going to be volunteering a couple of days for about an hour each. Maybe it will help me get to know some other pen afficionados.

Also I'm planning to get the weekend pass which gets me in the door early each day just in case I need to snap up the find of a lifetime pdq.
