Default Silicone grease for Pelikan 400NN?

I have a 400NN coming that needs a new seal. While I'm doing it I want to grease the new seal too. Is this stuff good to use?

I already have it but if it would be bad for a new to me Pelikan 400NN I'd buy something. Thanks!

    Link doesn't work.

Try this: Click on Edit Post, then Go Advanced, copy your full link again and add it to your post as a link: select the chain icon and paste it into the box. I usually remove the 's' from 'https' too.

Silicone grease for fountain pens needs to be pure silicone grease.

The plumber's silicone grease I have used (NOT Oatey brand) is quite thick, I use it on watch gaskets at work and it's fine for that application where it enhances the seal on rubber o-rings without damaging them and lubricates metal screw threads. My thought is that a lighter bodied grease might be better for pen piston seals, but this version is also likely to work OK without any risk of damaging plastics (the product specifically lists safety with rubber and plastic as a feature). What you're getting in this that may not be desireable is a thick consistency and fairly extreme heat resistence, dive grease is tackier and a bit lighter bodied (at least the stuff I have) and other products can be had with even lighter bodied formulas (which in true silicone grease will be composed of *only* silica based polymers).

In short, I haven't used the Oatey product specifically, but have used similar grease without damage to plastics... on a cheaper pen I'd say "send it", but that Pel isn't some $20 Chinese basic, so the margin of confidence that a higher priced pen-specific product offers might be worth the extra coin.

Thanks for the help. I went ahead and ordered some of the Trident brand pure silicone grease. Like you said, this isn't a basic pen and a couple bucks for some new known pure grease isn't going to break the bank and the added confidence in using it on a pen older than I am is worth it.
