Default I am a Fountain Pen Geek

My name is Bill, and I am a Fountain Pen Geek. I have been using fountain pens for about four years. Fountain pens are quirky, require regular refill and maintenance, and are also stylish, and fun.

Those are all positive qualities from my perspective. The fact that they need regular refilling is an opportunity to experiment with ink, and also a reason to have more pens! Being quirky to use (compared to a roller, for example), and requiring a bit of maintenance is what makes Fountain Pens a hobby.

I beilieve pens should be used and so far have limited my collection to a single case of fountain pens. I rotate them every few days, and put them back "upside down" when they need to be re-inked and do a few a a time.

A couple of years ago I ordered a dozen ink samples from different places. That was great and I had no trouble direct filling the converters on modern pens. Vintage pens with squeeze converters didn't work as well with sample vials, and now I'm mainly using CROSS Blue-Black for those pens. I know I will be exploring more inks in the future!

I've been to a couple of Pen Shows which is a great way to get into vintage pens and expand your collection.

The picture link below is not all of my pens, though it is a good representation of my vintage collection.

These are all working office pens. There is an emphasis on slim body metal pens because those are more familiar for me to write with, they look nice, and typically aren't too expensive. I have a few resin body pens, and am learning how to use and write with them.

The Shaeffer Slimline and Parker both have model specific converters, while the others have period correct squeeze converters where appropriate.

    The Pens Are:

    • Sheaffer Gold Clip
    • OMAS with a very elegant extended gold nib
    • Sheaffer Slimline with a fancy inlayed nib
    • SHEAFFER (R) resin body
    • Classic Grey Parker Resin Body with Hooded Nib

    Thanks for having the forum!
