    Default Sheaffer Convertor repair

    Hello All,

I have a Sheaffer Targa Slim model, unfortunately the sac in the convertor has perished.

Unfortunately I am aware that the slim convertors are virtually unobtainable. Is there anybody who can replace the sac? Prefer in UK or Europe, but I can post the convertor anywhere.

    Thanks for your help.

It's actually not that hard to do this, and it's something I've done many times. SBRE Brown did a video on the subject Here
You would need to buy the correct size sac from Pendragons, and you would need a little bit of shellac.
You would also need to be able to remove the plastic end part without damaging it, then replace it and ensure that the holding "dents" in the metal are in exactly the same place as they were in before you removed the end piece.

If you don't fancy doing it yourself, I have one that has already been done. PM me to discuss an exchange.

    Chrissy,

Do you use opaque latex sacs in place of the original?

I've used opaque black latex sacs in Sheaffer and Parker converters, and once used a pliglass sac for a black Sheaffer converter to convert it to the same type of sac as a red version.

I've never used a crochet hook like SBRE Brown used. I usually use plastic pliers to remove the end connector after heating the metal tube.

Another solution is to refill cartridges using a syringe with a blunted needle, these can be made by carefully grinding the tip off of a veterinary syringe, or for a slight increase in price you can buy them pre-modified.
    David-

    So many restoration projects...

    Thanks, I have tried that.

Unfortunately that doesn't help with the primary problem with cartridges - to get the first flow down to the feed & nib. Neither does it let you flush water though to clean the pen.

Thankfully Chrissy has come to the rescue, Post Office allowing.

I flush water through my pens with a rubber ear bulb in order to clean them. in the UK you sometimes have to buy one that is part of a kit, but try checking out "ear bulb" on Amazon and buy the cheapest one you find. The long pointed end fits into most pens.
