    Default Yard-o-Led Love

    IMG_20191114_213822-RanchoGordo.jpg

A dream came true. Got this Viceroy Grand with Lines and I think I'm done collecting. I've arrived.
    (Who am I kidding?)

    IMG_20191114_213932-RanchoGordo.jpg

It's huge but balanced. It writes like a dream. It's an M nib, but writes like a B, which is A-OK with me.

I believe they don't make this version anymore.
I've had great luck with eBay sellers. It feels like there is an amount of risk involved but you can tell when someone loves pens and when someone else has no clue what they're doing.

YoL fountain pens are really examples of Old World Craftsmanship.

A wonderful and rare find. I think the "Lines" fountain pen can now only be bought through the Smythson's Store and carries the Smythson logo on the pen clip. As you said, YoL no longer sells this version with their YoL logo.

    Nice!
What I love is that they look great but they also are my favorite writers. The almost dance on the paper.
I love a good looking pen but for me the point is the writing. I wouldn't collect a pen that I didn't like the way it wrote.
I think most of us are like that but I do hear about some who collect to collect and I don't think I'm in the same boat.

What's nice is I can switch between the standard pens and this Grand and I like them both.

    I can't believe I did this but it's a Corinthian from 1982.
I don't know what they called them then but it's similar to the Viceroy Grand in size.
    The ridges feel great.
The nib says M but it writes like a B.
It feels like a Ouiji board when I write. The spirits seem to be dragging the pen along! Almost.

If you really want Yard o Led, you have to work for it. I've never paid close to retail from stalking eBay and online stores. I think I have to quit. How many sterling pens does a fellow need? I'll let you know when I'm really sure.

Very impressive to get two YOLs in so short a time: congratulations!

Thanks. My business did very well this year and I'm not getting any younger. Some guys turn to drugs, fast cars, or worse when they hit middle age. My poison is fountain pens. I think I'm in a much happier position!

You really need to ride a motorcycle.

At this point, it might be cheaper!

I have dreams of getting another motorcycle but then I wake up and reality intrudes. Last one I had was in the early 60s and was a Midlands Bonneville.

My riding days are over, but DAMN that's one fine-looking pen. I've lusted after a Yard-o-Led for some time, but doubt that I'll ever be able to justify getting one, unless I run into Mr. Sumgai selling it.

Feel cheeky doing this - but last week I posted my review of my Astoria Grand I picked up at the last London Pen Show - I now have some additional info from Yard-O-Led themselves which will be used for a short follow up.
