Default Waterman Mysterious Blue ink is back!

About a year or so ago I ordered some Waterman cartridges in Serenity Blue, and was shipped Mysterious Blue by accident. I really liked it, and tried to buy a 50 ml bottle, but it wasn't available anywhere on the internet that I could find, and I really looked hard. No more cartridges, either -- every place was sold out. Flash forward to about a week ago, and I found someone selling the long cartridges on eBay, which I snapped up. Then I entered the ink's name in a search engine, and lo and behold, cartridges and 50 ml. bottles are back! Yayy!

When I was looking for it, a couple of places that used to carry it said they didn't know when if ever they'd get it back in, and thought it may have been discontinued. Does anyone know if Waterman's had discontinued it but then changed their mind due to popular demand, or if the temporary disappearance of the ink was due to some other cause?

    Thanks!

That's odd, as I purchased a bottle on Amazon this past May.

Well, it's been back since at least last May, I guess. I can't remember exactly when it was that it seemed to have disappeared from the face of the Earth, a little over a year ago I think, but I gave up looking for it after that, and only stumbled across it recently.

Well, Here in the UK The Writing Desk & Cupl Pens are showing stock of the 50ml bottles, as I type, so it's still around. I'm still using my bottle of Blue-Black that I've had for over 12 years...!

Does Waterman still lace their newer inks with phenol? My only bottle of Waterman ink is Washable Blue and it just reeks of phenol. It is a bit old, though; the bottle is 2 oz., tippable and the price on the box is 29 cents. I keep it as a disinfectant in case one of my pens comes down with a case of the drippy nib.

Howdy y'all (or yins, as we used to say in Pittsburgh):

It wasn't mysterious blue, it was obsession blue! And that one is still missing from the face of the Earth.
If anyone has some they'd like to sell, please let me know. Thanks!

Keep digging through searches, because... that ink may not exist but still exists (read on).

Waterman went through the phase where they renamed old inks with new names. Such as: South Sea Blue became Inspired Blue. However, digging around in threads online indicate that the ink known as Blue Obsession was simply renamed bottles of Inspired Blue, to go along with a "Blue Obsession" marketing campaign where they featured a number of blue pen designs. The ink, labeled as such, was a limited edition, but I have yet to see anyone compare them side by side. I'm willing to bet it's the same ink as Inspired, which is still readily available.

I have always believed that Obsession Blue was merely a repackaging of one of the regular blues for a particular pen and ink LE purchase. So it would be a match for either Inspired Blue or South Seas Blue

It's a bit like when Lamy Turquoise was repackaged as Pacific Blue so it went with the Al-Star LE pen.

As I noted above, I believe it is the third blue that you didn't mention: Inspired Blue. Which is still easily available from retailers.

Yes I realised my error too late and edited my post. I forgot what Inspired Blue used to be before the name changes and had to look it up.
