Default Is My JFK Fountain Pen A Fake?

Hi, i'm not convinced I have a genuine JFK fountain pen. When I view nibs from other JFK pens "2014" is stamped on the nib, the one I have isn't.

I don't know much about Montblanc real or fake pens but I will say the fit and finish in the top pic makes me seriously wonder.

I see odd gaps between the tassie and the cap body and it looks like the cap curve and clip curve don't match, leaving a gap. I wouldn't expect to see that on a LE high end pen.

If the price was too good to be true that would be a red flag, too.

It wasn't hard to find JFK fakes for sale online, either.

Is that a seam or a scratch on the cap?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

The authentic JFK FP should have 2014 inside that rectangular space on the nib. Therefore your pen must be suspect. Maybe you should get it checked out by Montblanc?

    Here are pictures for comparison

Hi Chrissy, thanks for your reply, I’ve emailed montblanc customer service with some pictures , like you concerned that all other picks seem to show 2014 stamped, seems a glaring omission for a fake. I purchase it from an eBay seller from Spain, “Anagas” seems to have been selling high end pens from 2001, I paid just over £700 for it, so not cheap.

A quick search seems to show that the "Special Edition" Burgundy JFK has a blank spot where the date is. Bryant Chatterly has a picture of a used one that sold shown here:

And on youtube PapierFischer has a 2- 1/2 minute video with a close-up of the nib beginnig at 1:30 that also shows the box blank. But note that these nibs are Yellow Gold, not the Rhodium plated white gold on the regular JFK editions.

Easiest way to check is to take a strong magnet to the nib. The gold nib is the most expensive part of the fountain pen in terms of raw materials and Counterfeiters will use laser etched or stamped stainless steel nibs.

Also the website pics don't show any writing on the side of the clip, but that could be the serial number?? as said above the fit and finish makes me doubt. I ran into a 146 knockoff that looked perfect until I looked at the bands and there was an extra one ( the RB had 2 and the FP had one!). All of the packaging was spot on with what I've purchased from boutiques.

Maybe send the serial number to MB and see if it is a duplicated one. Be aware that if you send the pen to MB and it's a fake there is a chance it won't come back!

I might start the return process unless the seller can provide receipts of purchase

The writing on the side of the clip could be the serial number and Montblanc wouldn't necessarily show it on their pics. However, the more I look at that number on the clip, the less I like this pen for authentic.

One of the first things you should notice about a 146 knockoff: is it a perfectly correct Mb fixed internal piston filler? That usually fails before you look at anything else. Authentic packaging is sold on ebay so anyone can buy it.
If I sent a pen to Montblanc and it was a fake, I wouldn't want it back.

These pictures of the cap and the nib give lots of doubts for me. An authentic Mont Blanc never looks so bad on any low quality photography. Although the photo of the nib looks unfocused it looks suspecting ... knockout nib look.

Thank you Cyril for your response, i have some pictures with me. I am still doubting about mine but the quality seems quit perfect (the photo, the quality of the pen seems bad but in real life it is in very good condition). I also bought it directly from a trusted seller but i need an honest feedback about my pen.
The cap makes me doubt but the rest, everything seems legit (my pen was not cleaned). Also, it is written

Metal and Made in Germany is written in the back of the cap
