Default Nib tuners besides Dan Smith and Masuyama?

    Hello,

With Masuyama having an 18 week wait and Dan Smith (the Nibsmith) not taking orders at all, who else out there takes mail-in pens for tuning/modification and has a good reputation? I've got a couple of hard starters and scratchy pens I'd like to get tuned up, but alas, these are the only two reputable nib tuners I know.

Mark Bacas (nibgrinder.com), Gena Salorino (customnibstudio.com) and Linda Kennedy (indy-pen-dance.com?) come to mind. I can't specifically speak to their current wait times, Gena is the most recent entry and might have the shortest wait, and she will also be at the upcoming Philly and LA pen shows.

    That's a start, anyway.

At the end of last year, Gena was at three weeks. Mark Bacas was at eight, but with an express option (two weeks $30).
    Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.

Thanks all. I sent an email to Gena, and I'll go to Bacas if she is too busy in the upcoming season.

Kirk Speer (penrealm.com) is great, affordable, and posted today that his wait is at five weeks.

    Bacas is great as well.

Is Pendleton Brown still working on nibs? Not sure what modification you're looking for, but his "Butter Line Stub" is an experience.

This week Indy Pen Dance replied to a repair query, advising an estimated 26-week turnaround time.

Any reliable, established repair person should be able to do nib work. If it doesn't write well when restored, what's the point?

yep, I've got a leaky pen that has been sitting in queue with them since November 15, 2019. Still no word yet.

    Who - Indy-pen-dance?

Also: I had a nib ground and another two tuned at the LA Show by Gena (customnibstudio) and she did very nice work. I'd certainly recommend her work and she still seems to have a reasonable workload. I didn't think I'd see Mike but a friend's husband cancelled and I had him spin an italic on a new Leonardo "Sarj" pen I had just gotten from Mr. Minhas, and - of course - it's another great cursive italic from Mr. Masuyama.

But if good work and reasonable time frame are a goal, certainly contact Gena.

Yes, my pen is in queue with Mike and Linda from Indy-Pen-Dance. Have a bad leak in the back of the piston on a MB 3-44G.

I can also highly recommend Gena for nib work. She did a wonderful sharp italic and an architect grind on my two Broad nib Sailor 912 pens. Turn-around time was a little less than 2 weeks just before Christmas last year.

    All the Best.
