Thumbs down Yikes. Coated paper, stingy inkflow?

One of my favorite papers has been the stuff in Kokuyo Campus notebooks (both grades, 30 pages). Perfect size, and I've been happily using it for years. One day, a Wing Sung 601 filled with Quink Blue started dragging on the page of a new notebook, the ink coming out pale and stingy. I flushed the pen. No difference.

    It wasn't the pen.

Several other pen-ink combos exhibited the same problems: stingy ink flow. I have been using that (and other KC) notebooks with pencil for things like shopping and to-do lists. But I have also recently noticed similar problems with some Clairefontaine and Rhodia papers! As though the coating itself was somehow clogging the tines of the pen.

    Anyone else have this problem?

    Did anything help?
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

I've seen a similar problem on A4 Clairefontaine Triomphe with a couple of different pens. I wondered if because I was writing on A4 sized sheets, the oil from my hand/wrist was making the tines sticky and the ink not flow properly as I wrote further down the paper where my hand and wrist had previously rested then rubbed across the paper as I was writing.
So far I haven't worked out what the problem is, but I now rest my hand on an additional loose sheet of paper while I'm writing down the page. There has been some improvement.
I don't usually use A5 sheets, but maybe a loose sheet of paper under your hand might be worth a try?

I've definitely seen oil from hands causing problems on some papers. Try using a scrap sheet of paper to rest your and on and if it helps then that was the problem

I swear I have seen Clairefontaine Triomphe exacerbate baby's bottom issues (hard starting) but the above sounds like a different issue.

I find the coating on Rhodia A4 pads to be unpleasant to write on with all but the wettest of inks. Aurora Black, for example, is fine. Diamine Registrars, you can practically hear squeaking and feel the resistance as the nib drags on the surface. It is awful.

I know it isn't hand oils as it starts at the very top of the page, where issues with oils from your hand manifest further down the page.

I have no such issues with Midori, Tomoe River or cheap paper, so I'll stick to those.

I've oily skin on me hands, even at this advanced age, so always put a piece of card under it when writing. A light piece of transparent plastic maybe a better option on reflection.

Thanks for the replies! Since I've been using these notebooks for years and only noticed the problem now, with a new batch of them, I do wonder if the paper itself has changed formulation.

The skimpy ink flow occurs at the top of the pages, too.
