    Default Hello from Hampshire, UK

Hello, I'm a bit new to all of this, I used cheap fountain pens throughout my education and until very recently just used a Waterman Carene and a couple of rollerballs. I frequent a UK-based watch forum where Montblancs are all the rage and looked into buying one of those and then ended up buying a pair of sterling silver Parker 75s on eBay. Yes, I know, there's not much in common there, but about the same time they arrived I thought to ask my mother if she had any pens that might have belonged to her partner, a solicitor, who sadly died 15 or so years ago. She came over to see me with a 1994ish Parker Centennial and two Parker 51s. All are up and running, the 75s are my favourites although the Duofold has a broad nib that I suspect I'll be using for writing letters rather than just jotting down ideas and business plans. Yesterday my mother dropped off another pen she'd found, a Duofold Maxima in need of a new sac, something I plan to get sorted (or possibly just send the watch off for a decent service). I'm looking forward to looking up lots of information on here, not asking any really stupid questions and hopefully not spending a ridiculous amount of money on more pens I don't need. I wonder if you've heard that before...

Anyway, here's the collection as it currently stands, and nice to meet you all.

    Hello and welcome

The Duofold on the far right is interesting to me, I have the same pen with the same discolouration to the cap, I think its caused by exposure to sunlight, I didnt have the pen from new and who I think must have stored the pen in a container on the window ledge. I have tried all sorts of remedies, better than it was but not like new.

Is it still as shiny as the rest of the cap?

That's odd. I've dealt with many of those Parkers but I haven't seen that discolouration before.

My pen is not quite as discoloured as the OP but it is the same pattern and shade, for all the world it looks like the pen has been on a window sill and the end of the cap has seen the most sun. The cap is shiny and otherwise perfect. I have had the pen for about 5 years and it has a fantastic broad oblique nib so I can forgive the pen quite a lot

Thank you everyone. I'm not sure how the Maxima became faded like that but I don't honestly mind the colour distortion. The closer it gets to the top of the cap the stripier it becomes, as if it's a fault with the plastic rather than sun fade. I can see it getting a lot of use once serviced (or just the sac replaced). I love the nib on the 1990s Duofold but I much prefer vintage pens. I just need to make sure that having gone from one to seven fountain pens in a very short space of time I don't go silly and buy more.
