    Default Finally pulled the trigger...

So I went to the LA pen show today, and I was shopping around for a MB149, as stated before, and I found a vintage 14c one for $380, and let me say, this pen is beautiful, I bought it in a interesting fine nib, but it is still exactly what I expected. However, I couldn’t find the serial number on the clip, just the words Germany. And there is no Pix on the clip or band either. I am completely sure this is a real pen, but if anyone has any answers?

Umm the grip doesn’t have a flare, is that normal for vintage?

Not all Montblanc pens have serial numbers. Someone more knowledgable will post when they started using them. A picture of the pen with closeups would be helpfull also.

Ah okay, would you know why mine does not have a flared end of the grip?

I don’t remember what year MB started using serial numbers and the pix trademark or what year the 14c 149 was produced but it’s entirely possible your pen predates the various imprints.

Would you know anything about the section?

Bi-color 14C was 1973 to 1985, and could be either a single-unit barrel (amber window with stripes) or 2-section barrel (clear stripes) if it was made between 1983 to 85. But will be a plastic threaded piston, if the pen is original to the nib.

The fact that the collar is missing from the pen is now being discussed on another thread

I believe that Montblanc started putting serial numbers onto their pens in 1990/1991. The word Pix was added to clips later.

Any pen with a 14c nib will not have a serial number or Pix.

    I'm surprised at this.

Me too. I would put money on the fact that at least one person in the world has transferred a 14c nib into a newer pen that has a serial number and/or Pix on the clip.

Was thinking the same, but in terms of all-original-parts, I can't think of any company that would have a serial number on it, during a time they called it Caret instead of Karet. (The Pix mark being obvious... they didn't use that til the 90s).

I'd be curious to learn if any company did, short of limited editions.

Pix was Montblanc's model name for their mechanical pencils before the second world war.

Indeed it was. The name came from the noise that the mechanical pencils made when shaken I believe.
