    Default Hooded Packard

Is that even the correct terminology, lol? Anyone have an idea what this Packard model was called? I’m guessing it is a “newish” design as it is cartridge based. Thanks for any ideas.

(I thought Wearever pens were hard to research – now I’m digging through Packards, Venus, and Stratfords. Mercy!)

Hmmmm. It looks suspiciously like a Parker 45.

I really like your Packard. Congrats on an interesting uncommon pen with a classy brand name. Of course, it draws inspiration from the hood of that other Packard:

It does look a lot like a Parker 45 with a transplanted Packard cap.

I was thinking the same thing. Tooth says it's a cart-filler. I wonder if the cart was included?

I went back and looked at it with the “swapped cap” idea and I’m pretty sure you folks nailed it. It came in one of those undescribed lots from the auction site. I’m new to all this so not familiar with the various Parker pens, but since this cap doesn’t have a very good snap/seal to the body, I’m pretty sure you are right that the original Parker 45 cap was lost and this Packard cap was put on just to make it look complete.

Once again I bow at the amazing insight and expertise this group has. Thank you for sharing.

See if their other listings have a Packard with a Parker cap

Sailor Kenshin - that was totally my plan, until I realized they had also removed the feed. someone really messed this one up sadly.

Yikes. But the 45 being common enough, maybe you could find a new feed.

I have one of them. Would the parts really be interchangeable? Besides, the 80 is a really NICE writer, pity to tear one down just for the feed.

Maybe fleabay or Pendemonium would have a reasonably priced feed.

Good to know, thanks. I took a quick look at the 'bay and Pendemonium and didn't see any 45 feeds.

If you mean the exterior part of the Parker 45 feed, that screws off of the end of the section with the nib, then they are quite easy to come by.

On the other hand, if you mean the interior part of the feed, and you know there's something wrong with that or it's "not there" if there is nothing to put the cartridge or converter onto, then that's a significantly different problem.

For the former you need a new feed. For the latter you need a new section.

OP you already need a new Parker 45 cap, and they are also quite easily available. However, if you need a new internal feed then just unscrew the nib and external feed, throw away the section, keep the Packard cap in the parts box for something else, and buy a new Parker 45.

Echoing Chrissy. I always found P45 spare parts to be grossly overpriced, given how affordable the actual pen is.
Just buy a P45 and keep the frankenpen for spares They are great little pens.

You would be surprised at how true this is. I have a Montblanc 144 fountain pen with a lost cap. A Parker 45 cap fits perfectly and is a good tight hold of the Montblanc 144 clutch ring on the Parker cap. Keeps the nib moist too. The resulting Parkmont 45/144 has worked for several years.
