Default Ink Review: Diamine Scribble Purple

Today I'm reviewing Diamine Scribble Purple

A purple ink from the standard range, Diamine Scribble Purple was chosen and named by the Fountain Pen UK community on Facebook in a survey co-ordinated by Bernard Gomes.

Scribble Purple is a very dark almost black Imperial purple type shade with a heavy gold sheen. It was quite wet while writing, and felt smooth and lubricated on my Xerox ColourPrint laser 100gsm paper. When writing with broader wetter nibs, it is very dark indeed.

Scribble Purple is a very saturated ink and can show through on some cheaper papers.

The gold sheen is more noticeable when writing on smooth papers with pens that have broader, wetter nibs.

    • Flow Rate: Good - quite wet.
    • Lubrication: Smooth.
    • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
    • Start-up: Immediate.
    • Saturation: Very saturated.
    • Shading Potential: No shading seen with such a saturated ink.
    • Sheen: Gold sheen noticeable with some pen/paper combinations.
    • Show-Through:
      • Clairefontaine Matris notebook
      • Oxford 80gsm lined pad
      • Rhodia Dot Pad
      • Tomoe River 52gsm paper
      • Tomoe River 68gsm paper
      • Maruman Mnemosyne pad

    • Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen.
    • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after over 1 week in the pen.
    • Staining (pen): I cleaned out the converter with sudsy water.
    • Staining (hands): It took 3 washes to get my fingers clean.
    • Clogging: Not seen. Seems unlikely.
    • Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows a little water resistance.
    • Availability: Available from Diamine Inks web-site and many other outlets worldwide.

    Thanks for the review.

Do you know how similar It is to Lamy Dark Lilac (as dark Lilac was only a limited but interesting ink)?

I guess Pansy is a much closer match to Darc Lilac.

Thanks for the review Chrissy. Excellant as usual
These dark black purples with gold sheen seem to be quite the rage these days.....
I nearly bought a bottle of Purple rain when I read your review and thankfully I just got a sample. I didn't like it. SP is definitely not my cuppa!
I wonder how Sailor Shigure would look with this lot

    You're welcome.
Lamy Dark Lilac is much more red. I used it as a comparison ink in my previous review of Diamine Monboddo's Hat. That ink is a similar shade of ink to Scribble Purple, just lighter. So as you can see how Dark Lilac compares to that ink, there was no need to compare it with Scribble Purple too.

Sailor Shigure is a much lighter shade than any of these purples.

I was thinking about how many dark black purples with gold sheen I might have, as they do seem to be quite the rage at present. I would venture to say that I bet there aren't many ink users who would need Purple Rain as well as Scribble Purple.
