    Default NPD Santini Michelangelo LE

I am in awe of just how beautiful this pen is. It reminds me of a Omas Paragon but this pen is larger. The wood grain ebonite is gorgeous. The nib is a medium italic flexy nib that is made in house by Santini and it’s superb. It’s soft and springy and I would call it semi flex more than full flex. We all know that Aurora makes their own nibs and how great they are, well the Santini nib is just as good in my book if not better. After writing with it for over an hour I am just amazed at the quality and craftsmanship of the pen and how the nib, even for a formal italic just glides across the paper.

The pen is large being slightly longer than a Montblanc 149 and just about as girthy. It’s comfortable for me to hold and barely any hand strain after an hour of writing. The pen cane in this really nice well made presentation box made out of what I think is olive wood and is lined with red velvet. I ordered the pen directly from Santini and their customer service was excellent and they shipped it to me fast.

I will have more thoughts in this pen as I use it more but so far I am really impressed.

Very nice! I am hoping to get a Santini soon. Some nice designs and own nib manufacture make them very appealing.

I love any pen with gorgeous woodgrain ebonite. But this Santini is something that I would actually consider buying.

I have handled and written with a Santini courtesy of one of the pen club member, not this particular pen, but similar 18K nib.

It's soft and can produce some line variation. And I kinda like the "worn" look on the nib which really make it looks like a lot older than it actually is.

Lovely pen and excellent photos. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, BH-VIII - Nice pen. I'm thinking of ordering a Santini and (assuming you're in the U.S.) I am curious whether you had to pay any import duties to U.S. Customs. Many thanks.

It's a very nice pen, but I don't think the nib is a "formal italic." From the picture of the nib and the writing sample I'd say that's a CURSIVE italic - which looking at the maker's nib page is one of their specialities : https://www.santini-italia.com/gold-nibs.html

...A cursive italic is halfway between a formal italic and a stub. Getting a CI as smooth as you report is impressive, combining it with semi-flex much more so! You really wouldn't want a formal italic - they're for slow, deliberate writing only - basically, calligraphy. (In fact, probably for that reason, Santini don't seem to make formal italics. They certainly could. They're a much easier nib to make than a cursive italic - calligraphers often make their own from regular nibs.)

No I did not. They sent it via UPS air.
