    Default Sheaffer Eaton Textron Slim

Please help me identify this fp with a rough production date. It indicates "Sheaffer USA Gold Electroplate" around the cap and nothing on the nib. Currently purging my house to move and found this pen in a box-o-stuff from my parents. My Dad gave me his Sheaffer's PFM Snorkel a year ago, however, never mentioned another fountain pen in his possession.

At least one photo of the pen would be helpful...

I believe that is a Sheaffer TRZ Model 70. These pens were produced during the mid-1980s. The routinely feature some of the smoothest nibs, but an issue you can run into is that they used a special slim cartridge (or converter) that are virtually impossible to find. If the pen has a converter inside, you are in luck; if a dried out cartridge, keep it and use a syringe to refill with ink.

Or find someone who might just happen to have a slimline converter.

There is a lot of mixed comments on the web about what cartridges will fit these pens and the Sheaffer Slimline Targa. I used to use Waterman Mini cartridges, they would go in the barrel and didnt leak. Other people say that the International cartridge is definitely no good, Gary Ellison on the Targa site offers International cartridges that he says will fit, 'International Ink Cartridges to fit slimline Sheaffer Targa (6 in a pack) for £2'. The Writing Desk say that International cartridges will not fit the Targa.

I am guessing that if they fit the Slim Targa then they will also fit the TRZ, would that be correct?

I think if I had a TRZ with neither a Sheaffer slim cartridge or a converter I would just try anything, I would go for Waterman Mini and see if they worked on my pen.

The other option is the Monteverde Mini converter. It has a small plunger in the back, fits well, but hardly holds any ink. The only place I've ever seen them is at Goulet, but I'm sure there are other sources.

Thank you so much Jon. I do think it's a TRZ Model 70 and yes it came with an extra cartridge (2) and a converter that looks to be in fine condition. I just washed the nib and feed out and rinsed out the dried cartridge. Wish me luck...
