    Default Lever-fill Candid question

I’ve had several short trails when researching pens, but none shorter than when I tried to identify this Candid brand. Can anyone help me with knowledge about the Candid Pen Company or this fountain pen? I literally found one link on the web to a Candid pen and nothing else.

The material is not like anything I’ve run across before (which isn’t saying much given how new I am to fountain pens). The body is not smooth – all those patterns you see create texture on the barrel and cap that you can feel with your finger. I actually wondered if it was papier-mâché at first and am still afraid to soak it.

The color shifted a lot in these photos for some reason. It’s actually a deep seaweed green instead of cigar brown if that helps anyone. Thanks for any info you can pass along. I’m looking forward to writing with this odd one!

To be candid, I was unable to find anything on this pen brand. Perhaps it is another National with a name slapped on the clip, but for which retailer?

The color and texture of the pen's body look a little like cigar wrapper. I wonder, can you can smoke it?

This is one of the innumerable low tier pens produced in the 1930s. Everyone needed a pen and not everyone could afford Waterman and Parker. These are where the old memes of shaking a pen to make it write came from. It is likely impossible now to find records about who actually made it. The crazed crackling effect on it could be due to it being made of casein, in which case you do not want to soak it as it will swell.

Excellent info Scrawler, thank you for making the time to respond. Knowing even this much about a pen makes it far more interesting when I write with it.
