Default Any one familiar with the Galen Leather Pen roll?

While a hard case may offer better protection, I'm considering a Galen Pen roll as well. The Galen seems to offer additional uses than just pens and I like the flap as I have some bigger pens. Pen rolls without a flap seem that the pen could come out.

While I'd prefer individual slots for the pens, so far I've not found anything.

    Anyone with experience/suggestions?

    Thanks.

If you are looking for a roll, I can recommend the Pilot Pensemble. It holds five large pens and, most importantly, each has its own sleeve.

Mine is in black/grey and I love it.

I've seen their products and they are well made (I'm waiting on stock so I can order a particular 3-pen case). However, I'm going to offer one caveat on the above roll: I never use any kind of carry for nice/serious pens that doesn't separate them. Mashing 3 pens next to each other, knowing that they are going to rub, is just out. I'm not being overly fussy, I just know that if any of these pens are going to find a new home, the concept of "micro-wear" and how it affects a pens value - not to mention it's looks - is important to me. There are many, many cases that keep each pen securely and separately stored, and I'll go for those.

Anyway, that's my take. From the recap I did of last August's 2019 SF Pen Show (which you can find in the Show forum), here's a shot of some of their lovely items at the Vanness Pen Co. tables:

    "When Men differ in Opinion, both Sides ought equally to have the Advantage of being heard by the Publick;
and that when Truth and Error have fair Play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter."

Yes, you are correct. I too cringe at putting pens together in a sleeve. I have a nice leather case for two pens, it's certainly big enough for the two pens, but I don't want the pens touching. So it's really a one-pen case.

    Thanks for the help.

I have two of the Taccia rolls, a four and and eight. Not leather but I love them and they work well for me.

Thanks to Silverlifter's advice I went with the Pilot Pensemble. I found one in dark brown leather on Amazon. Since it's coming from Japan it will take about a month to get here.

Thanks to everyone for suggestions and advice. That's the benefit of a group like this where one can take experience from others and make more informed decisions.

    Cheers to all.

Well if you buy direct from Galen, he takes about that much time.

Galen does have some lovely products I can see myself purchasing. I'm old school and just prefer leather goods whenever possible. There's a sensual quality with leather goods that appeals to me as well as the toughness and longevity. I have a leather coat from college days (bought in 1971) and it still looks good, has aged nicely (better than me) and surprising still fits.

It must be a magical coat as every time I put it on I hear Creedence Clearwater Revival and Otis Redding and smell patchouli.

    Cheers.

Thanks to those who recommended the Pilot Pensemble. Received it today from Japan with fast shipping for a non-expedited parcel.

The interior is very smooth, the pen sleeves are generous in size, and it is all strongly-stitched and lovely leather. The roll strap is very sturdy and well-finished. Rolled with five pens it's approximately 7 tall x 3 wide by 1.75 thick.

I appreciate being steered to it as it fully meets my needs and looks good to boot!

    Cheers,

You can use these velvet pen pouches and put them together in a pen roll with little worry. The pouches themselves will take up a little room in a larger section of a roll up, but you can combine several pens without the rubbing. I ordered them and they are good quality.

    Reasonable too!

Also, I use the ateliers Penelope pen wrap (tool pouch) on occasion and they are great. I like having the zippered pocket for the clips, ruler, and extras I need when traveling. The waxed canvas is DURABLE! And I like the design where it expands a lot and still ties with the longer laces. I picked the one in olive green.

Using them with the velvet pen pouches I mentioned above and you should be able to easily get 6 or more pens in this wrap with no issues of rubbing. More if you use the zippered pocket for pens in the pouches as well.
