    Default Waterman ink

I noticed at the pen show last weekend that Waterman ink has new boxes and bottles and $20 & up prices. Are those a new ink range while their standard range goes unchanged (like Edelstein and Pelikan)? Or are we faced with the Montblancification of all Waterman ink?

The bottles on their website looks the same, although it does look like they have tweaked the labels...

I started looking for examples of unusual Waterman ink bottles on retailer websites. For example, Anderson Pens:

I admit I didn't start opening boxes, but they were tan, wide and squat.

That's a weird looking bottle, and it looks more like a design regression than a Montblancification... It almost looks like a trade bottle for refilling displays or the like.

Now while I have a soft spot for that style of bottle, as you can see, for practicality the faceted Waterman bottle is awfully hard to beat. I'd be very sorry to see it go, especially as "wide and squat" doesn't exactly fill my heart with joy when it comes to ink bottle design. Hopefully it is a new range to cash in, and they'll leave the good stuff alone and unmolested.

Not to worry. I am beginning to doubt my own eyes since I cannot find a photo of the boxes on the www. When I get to the next show (Long Island), I'll be sure to take a closer look and post what I find.

That bottle of green ink is a vintage bottle. 1970's or 80's? They appear on ebay from time to time. I had a red bottle and sold it on there. Sometimes they don't have the large outer cap and only have the small inner screw cap. They have quite a small hole to put the pen into and aren't as user friendly as the later bottles.

All of a sudden I'm interested in the dates for said show - I see it's not a long wait. Be interested to hear what you might discover, Fred. Perhaps attendees at the London show might be able to enlighten us as well.

I just purchased a bottle of Waterman purple through my local stationer and it came in the same faceted bottle that has been standard for a few decades, with the recent, somewhat bland labelling. I recycled the box immediately, but it was dark, not tan.

The (full retail I assume) price was less than $15 tax included.
