    Nice! Pictures?

When I bought this midnight blue set I think I was quite fortunate in that both parts were in such good condition. A fluke perhaps, given the current market offerings.

This has been a nice daily user grade 51 made in '42. I pair it with a era correct 51 pencil with a black barrell. I have read the cedar blue turned black over time, but have not way of knowing if mine was once blue.

Outside of home, I usually need to write too quickly to use a fountain pen of any sort. At work, I definitely need to write too quickly and with a waterproof ink. At work, I use Pilot G2 gel pens, ballpoint pens and extra fine point Sharpies, depending on the surface I need to write on. So my pens live at home. I'm very careful with them at home, both when using them and when they are not in use. I hope that when I retire I'll have the time to write slowly outside of my home, sitting in a cafe and enjoying a coffee, and then my fountain pens will get to come on excursions with me.

I learned an old trick for using a FP quick, hold the cap in your non writing hand. Since I got mine to use, my small stash of pens travel with me daily. Usually its one of the friction cap type since these won't unscrew in my shirt pocke like the Esterbrooks have done in the past.

Both the Parker 51's from 1942 are flawless performers to date using only Waterman Serenity Blue.

    Still searching!

Looks like good condition midnight blue models are going the way of the plum versions, in terms of rarity, but some of that may be due to the current world situation.

I've seen some recently on eBay mostly from auctions where the color referred to a navy blue.

I suspect that the current world situation is affecting the quantity of available pens on the auction website. It may be better to put this search aside until after things get back to something a little more normal.

Suit yourself, but both my ‘51’s were acquired in 2019-20.
