Lightbulb HELP!! 1940s Pen Collection Identification

    Hello all!

I’m new here and I recently came across this pen/pencil collection from the 1940s.

Let me first start off by saying I have about ZERO knowledge when it comes to pens (although I’d like to know more) what parts of the pen are called etc. Any help with names of parts, model and brand of pens etc would be more than greatly appreciated.

Let me know.. do I have any gems in this collection?

From the research I’ve done I’ve found a few items on eBay and on google to try and find any information I could.. unfortunately with my limited knowledge I’ve only discovered most are from the mid 1940s.

Most items as you can see are parts however most are brand new with the price tag still on them.

    THANK YOU

    -Shannon

Other than the couple in the little box, looks like someone yanked most if not all the gold nibs (probably to scrap and sell sadly).

Definitely recognize a few barrels there though, including a Conklin Crescent Filler barrel (some with missing locking rings, and likely has the pressure bar removed and scrapped too), and the spare parts all look nice, but it's a pretty much all loose parts and can't really be given too much ID from the scatter. Best to try to match cap to barrel, and line up for that.

The rods in the box with the gasket on the ends, are most likely for Sheaffer Vac-Fil style pens (and other brands that carried the same kind of set up, but who knows exactly which it is without exact measurements).

Edit: Definitely feels like the previous person who had it scrapped it for all the gold, cuz I noticed some clips have been removed (likely if they were gold plated or rolled), but steel or blackened clips remain.

Also a lot of those, seem more like 1920s and 1930s.

Thank you. I had no idea about any of that. It’s so hard to learn when the knowledge isn’t there yet and finding information is so sparse. I really appreciate it

Maybe Rob Lott would buy them.

I know I would certainly love a couple pieces/parts from that, but no way I could afford them right now.

Actually hurts to see this. I have a couple of low-value eyedroppers missing nibs (someone gave them to me early in my fountain pen journey) but it is still painful to see these old soldiers dismembered for their gold.

I would love some of those spare parts myself, but, you know...
My other pen is a Montblanc.

And my other blog is a tumblr!

And my latest ebook, for spooky wintery reading:

I wouldn’t be opposed to selling a few pieces but I’m still learning and have no idea of the value. I don’t want to just give them away.

Any idea of what pieces might be worth something and how much?

There's no real valuation for any of it. The only vallue would be to someone who needed an individual specific piece for something they own and it will be a matter of negotiation between the two of you. The value really is "that which it will bring".

I think that it's value as, say, an ebay parts lot, would be whatever someone might be prepared to pay for it at auction.

I'm sure they would sell well if presented, as Chrissy says, as an eBay parts lot. I've bought parts collections like that in the past and found them very useful. I concentrate on Mabie Todd pens now so your collection wouldn't be helpful for me now.

This is not a pen collection, just a lot of parts.

Probably a pen restorer would be interested in the lot.

As suggested above, your best bet would be Ebay, and see if you can get an offer which satisfies you.

Agreed on sale on ebay, you may want to exclude China.

About a year ago I sold a similar lot, just a lot of odd bits, I had tried to make a good couple of pens out of a bag of broken caps, barrels and sections, just rubbish really. I thought that someone could practice polishing or repairing cracks. I advertised them as a selection of parts to practice pen repair, about 15 caps and 10 barrels plus a few old ballpoints, obviously it was a clearout of my parts box. I was surprised that the winner paid £24 for a bag of junk but off they went to China.

Six months later I had an message through ebay, Google translate must have been working overtime, 'I would like a discount because I had difficulty in getting some of the pens to work'.

I gave him his money back, life is too short to argue.

i usually don't ship overseas unless its with the Global Shipping program and in this situation I may hang on to them until i find out a little more information or I will make a couple of lots out of what I have and sell to just US buyers. I'm kind of unsure of what to do at this time.

I'm mainly eyeing some of the marbled or black rubber ones that still have grips and feeds.
