Default Pelikan 400 script nib variations

The “How many Pelikans do you have?” thread sent me on a deep dive in to my collection to have another look at my pens.

I found that two of my pens had script nibs, with the width unmarked.

One has the typical 400 style script nib, with the etched, shading inside the letters. (To me these always look like the lettering on circus posters.) The other nib has more simple letters, with just a single line, more like older Pelikan nibs. However, the nib with the simpler lettering came bundled with one of those awful polystyrene collars, which would seem to indicate that it this isn’t an older nib. For what it’s worth, the pen is an export model green stripe.

Were there more variations on the 400 script nibs our am i missing something?

I did check there. I didn’t see the single line nibs as a 400 variant. It looks like some older pre-400 nibs, but it doesn’t seem likely that it would have the polystyrene collar. Though not impossible, i suppose.

I did look there. too. It’s a little unclear which if any on that page are 400 nibs. The heading says 100/100N nibs, but some of those look like 400 nibs. The 400 page is mostly about threading and nib widths.

The second one belongs originally to a 100N. These were used for a long period on different 100N models.
(...but of course there were also other nibs used on Pelikan 100N during 1938 and 1954.)
nibs, collars and feeder can be changed easily.

It occurs to me that neither the Pelikan collectibles site nor the Ruettiger site have an example of a Pelikan - 585 - 14 KARAT nib with both the “Pelikan” & the “14 karat” dotted. Has anyone seen one?

I have a three of those (dotted Pelikan & 14 KARAT) in my 100N, similar to the first nib you posted. That is a nice BB nib btw. my favourite width & style/type.

Pelikan did use the script pattern nibs for the early 400 as they were the ones that were available. Measurements wise the nibs for the 100N and 400-series pens are interchangeable between the respective feeds & collars.

...actually, the logo/chevron nib wasn't introduced until 12.12.1954 (from Pelikan Schreibgeräte 1929-1997).

Well, I did not find a single nib with a dotted imprinted "KARAT"....neither on a 400 nor on a 100N. Only on early 100, but these nibs are different.
