    Default Making Pen Paraphernalia Stuff

I enjoy working at things. Here's a bamboo pen stand I made a few weeks ago in about 1 hour. I have bamboo in my yard that's about 30-40 feet tall, and the diameter can be 3-4 inches or more. The pens rest in the grooves and there's room for more between the bamboo pieces.

Each year in the fall, I'll cut down some bamboo, stack it horizontally above ground, and let it dry and season which makes it much harder. This gives me project pieces for a variety of things and a couple of friends get some for their projects.

I'm thinking about a vertical pen stand using bamboo along the lines of test tube stands with a weighted base. I've got some ideas about it but will let it ruminate until I know what I want and how to do it. Fortunately, I have a good woodworking shop with table saws, bandsaws, drill presses, and other goodies that help, but this bamboo pen stand could have been made with simple hand tools.

I enjoy seeing what other people make as that always gives me ideas for projects. Thought you DIYers might get some ideas from mine.

    Cheers.

    Nice!!!

We have black bamboo, but it's individual stems aren't so thick. I could somehow join two pieces together and lie a pen in the middle.

Here's a side view. I put a leather strip under one edge to level it out, then non-slip shelving material on the entire base to keep it from moving.

Everything is attached, including the bamboo pieces, using superglue. I used 2 coats of thin shellac then paste wax on the bamboo before adding the non-slip material.

If you have a length of bamboo with the inside diameter (the hollow part) of about 3/4 inches, that would make a nice 1-pen case, or a very fancy pen shipping container.

Sadly I don't. My bamboo just isn't anywhere near to that thickness.

I've been using extra leisure time to make little pen wraps and pouches and pen-kimonos.

The blue denim one is the first time I've used the Japanese sashiko quilting idea. I quite like it, and it makes the three layers of fabric (denim, muslin, lining) feel much stiffer than they do before quilting.

I always keep an eye open for cute oddments of upholstery fabric. I knew they would come in useful one day :-)
